Strap on your mountain boots for a one-day hike up Spain’s highest mountain, and climb to the summit of Mulhacén in the Sierra Nevada on an adventure that is suitable for beginners and those with little mountain experience.
Day 1:
Following a pick-up in Granada, drive to Las Alpujarras, enjoying views of the white villages of Arabic origin on the south face of the Sierra Nevada. Continue to La Hoya del Portillo, the highest point of Mulhacén accesible by car. Start your climb from 6,500 feet (1,980 meters), and hike for about 3-4 hours to the Poqueira Mountain Hut at 8,200 feet (2,500 meters)Then, start your ascent to the summit of Mulhacén at 11,423 feet (3,482 meters). Catch your breath and take in the incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea and mountains of the Sierra Nevada. On clear days, the views extend far and wide over Spain, and as far as the Rif Mountains in North Africa! The return hike to La Hoya del Portillo will take approximately 5 hours, where your transfer back to Granada will be waiting.
