Meet your guide at the ticket desk, located within the imposing walls of the medieval castle of Cisterna d'Asti, and start your guided visit to discover the ancient crafts of yesteryear. Immerse yourself in the past for an hour and a half and visit the three floors of the castle, which today house one of the largest ethnographic museums in Piedmont.
The three floors contain 23 rooms in which 27 workshops are depicted through the objects and furnishings that were used in the past.
The tour will start in the cellar, where the blacksmith's and basket maker's workshops are set up, and you will hear stories about rural legends, the Cisterna coin, and agricultural techniques. A room dedicated to wine was a must.
Next, the tour continues to the Noble Floor, where the workshops filled with original objects from the area overlook an ancient cistern. These include the bakery, the tavern, the printing shop, the tobacco shop, the nougat maker and the goldsmith. You can also visit the room dedicated to Princess Maria Vittoria del Pozzo della Cisterna, the last noble heiress of the Castle, and the council chamber.
The tour ends with a visit to the top floor, which houses the workshops of the cobbler-saddler, carpenter, weaver, wheelwright, watchmaker, knife grinder, mattress maker, tailor and midwife, as well as rooms dedicated to rural weights and measures, music, the middle class and mutual aid societies, respectively.
