You’ll be picked up from your hotel by tuk-tuk and make your way through the village, greeting members of the local community as you descend towards the shores of Castlereigh Reservoir, where your journey on the water begins.

Step into a traditional boat and head out with a guide who grew up in this community. As you glide across the calm water with panoramic views in every direction, you can explore what you’re genuinely curious about: life on the tea estates, education, work, hopes for the future, or how this landscape shapes daily life. The guide isn’t just showing you the reservoir; they’re sharing their experience.

After your time on the water, visit a nearby local home for freshly brewed milk tea and jaggery. Sit down together and continue the conversation.

This experience offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with young people connected to Tea Leaf Trust, a charity supporting tea estate communities. The projects are led by graduates of the programme themselves.

Note: We would love to welcome solo travellers; however, due to the operating costs of the boat experience, a minimum booking equivalent to two guests is required to ensure the experience remains sustainable.
