What you can expect

Begin your adventure with a convenient pickup from your accommodation or meet directly at the trailhead.
Situated between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, Lion's Head towers above the city and forms part of the spectacular Table Mountain National Park. Renowned as one of Cape Town’s most iconic hikes, Lion’s Head rewards hikers with ever-changing panoramic views as the spiralling trail wraps its way around the mountain toward the summit.
The ascent begins on a well-defined path that gradually climbs around the mountain, revealing breath-taking scenery in every direction. Higher up, the terrain becomes more rugged, with sections requiring the use of your hands to scramble over rocks. The route then steepens toward the first ladder before traversing along a narrow ledge fitted with chain handrails for support. Continuing upward, you’ll reach a fork where two short rock pitches and additional ladders lead onto the crest of the southeast ridge.
As you approach the summit, the trail transforms into a final short scramble before the last ladder brings you to the 669-meter peak. From the top, enjoy magnificent 360-degree views over Cape Town, framed by the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain and the Atlantic coastline. The descent offers a completely different perspective of the city. For the sunset way down and sunrise hike up you will be provided with a headlamp, adding a memorable touch to this unique hiking experience.
