The Spider Rock Rim Tour & Storytelling tour departs at 5 PM from the front of the Thunderbird Lodge. This two-hour tour travels 37 miles along the South Rim of Canyon de Chelly, with stops at various overlooks and ancient ruins. This tour does not enter the canyon and stays entirely along the rim, making it accessible for private vehicles as well.

It’s a great option for guests who prefer a smoother ride, are traveling with young children, have limited time, or simply wish to experience the beauty of the canyon from above. Upon reaching the Spider Rock Overlook, you’ll have the opportunity to stretch your legs, enjoy breathtaking views, and hear the rich history and stories of the Navajo (Diné) people—including the legend of the infamous Spider Rock.
Our 6-wheel drive, open-air Pinzgauer vehicles seat up to 10 passengers safely with seat belts. Guests who prefer a self-guided experience are also welcome to drive their own vehicles along the South Rim.
