The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities—often referred to as the Egyptian Museum or the Cairo Museum—is located in the heart of Cairo and boasts one of the world’s most impressive collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Housing approximately 120,000 items, the museum displays a significant selection to the public, while many more remain in storage. Designed by the Italian firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, the museum building was completed in 1901 and stands as one of the largest and most renowned museums in the region. As of March 2019, it remains open to visitors, though it is set to be succeeded by the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which was scheduled to open in 2020.
