Activity itinerary

Municipio di Cagliari (Pass by)
The beautiful Bacarela Palazzo, which stands on the corner, is Cagliari’s new Town Inn. Until the end of the 19th century, the municipality was housed in a palace in Piazza Palazzo.
La marina (Pass by)
Via Roma, lined with beautiful Liberty facades in arcades filled with terraces and shops, runs along the marina of Cagliari. This street, one of the main streets of the city, is very popular with locals and is perfect for this famous pasgiata, the walk in the Italian style, a real ritual during which the inhabitants, all elegantly dressed, walk at the end of the day.
Via Giuseppe Garibaldi (Pass by)
You arrive on Garibaldi Street, a lively artery in the Villanova district. As the name suggests, you are here in the New Town and the architecture around you has nothing to do with the medieval heart of Castello.
Piazza San Giacomo (Pass by)
Here you are in San Giacomo square opposite the church of the same name. To its right are the oratories of souls and that of the Santissimo Crocifisso. The latter is the seat of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Crucifix, protagonist of many rites that take place in Cagliari during Holy Week.
Cagliari (Pass by)
Arriving at the top of the bastion, the huge terrace allows you to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. You can see Regina Margherita Avenue going down to the port and the rooftops of the Villanova district, with the ponds and Urpinu Mountain as a backdrop.
Bastione di Saint Remy (Pass by)
This monumental staircase, topped by a triumphal arch, is one of the most beautiful and important monuments in Cagliari. The bastion takes its name from the Baron of San Remy who was twice Piedmontese Viceroy of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
Torre dell'Elefante (Pass by)
See that little elephant, beautifully carved on the facade in front of you? It gave its name to the medieval tower it decorates.
Basilica of the Holy Cross of the Order of Saint Maurice (Pass by)
The walls of the ancient fortified city, built by the Pisans in the 13th century, surround what was then the administrative center of Cagliari. Today, the ramparts offer us beautiful terraces and breathtaking views of the surroundings.
Tower of San Pancrazio (Pass by)
Arriving at Independence Square, you see, on the right of the door, Torre di San Pancrazio. It is the tallest tower in Cagliari and one of the symbols of the city.
Cittadella dei Musei (Pass by)
The beautiful door you have in front of you is called the Porta Cristina. It was built in 1825 by Carlos Boyle and is largely inspired by the Angelica Gate in Rome. It is named Cristina in honor of Queen Marie Christine of Bourbon who was the wife of King Charles Felix of Savoy, then King of Sardinia.
Piazza Palazzo (Pass by)
If there’s one thing you can’t take away from Cagliari, it’s the magnificent views scattered throughout the city. That’s what it’s like to be on a hill! Here, from Piazza Palacio, you have a beautiful unobstructed view of Villanova, one of the four ancient districts of the city dating from the 12th century.
Palazzo Regio (Pass by)
Now you are standing in front of the Royal Palace, also known as Palazzo Regio. This building dates from the 14th century. At that time, Cagliari was in the hands of the Crown of Aragon, which had far too many territories and could not be everywhere at once.
Catedrale di Santa Cecilia (Pass by)
It is very beautiful Cagliari Cathedral that you now have in front of you. It derives its particular style from the many modifications it has undergone over the centuries.
Palazzo di Citta (Pass by)
On the right side of the square you see the pink facade of a small square building. It is the old Palazzo di Città, the municipal seat of the city, from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. In 1896, the then Mayor decided to build a new City Inn on Via Roma facing the port and the municipality moved there in 1907.
Teatro Civico di Castello (Pass by)
The pink building you have on your left is the Civic Theatre of Cagliari. It was built to replace an old wooden theatre, built on the initiative of the Marquis Zapata de las Plassas, who wanted to build a theatre annexed to his palace.
Municipal Auditorium (Pass by)
Just a quick word about the Municipal Auditorium. Yes, it is a church, that of Santa Teresa, built in the 17th century by the Jesuits. In 1848, the church and college became state property.
Chiesa Collegiata di Sant'Anna (Pass by)
The beautiful church you now have before you is the Collegiate Church of Santa Anna. It is the main parish church in the Stampace district.
