What you can expect

Leave Brașov in the morning and travel through rolling hills shaped by centuries of Saxon settlement. Your guide uses the drive to outline the multicultural history of Transylvania and explain how fortified churches and citadels protected local communities across the region.

The day is structured around the Saxon heritage of the region, with flexibility built in at every stage. The route takes in two UNESCO-listed villages — Sighișoara and Viscri — together with a visit to Rupea Fortress and a passing view of the Saxon village of Saschiz. The order of visits and the time spent at each location are adapted on the day based on weather, traffic, opening hours, and your group's pace. The goal is always a relaxed, unhurried experience rather than a timed checklist.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE

Sighișoara — A UNESCO-listed medieval citadel that remains inhabited today. You enter through one of its original gates and explore cobblestone streets, towers and quiet squares. Landmarks include the Clock Tower, the Covered Staircase and the Church on the Hill. Your guide provides context before each section, after which you have time to explore, photograph and wander independently. Note: most museums in Romania are closed on Mondays — your guide will advise on the day which interiors are accessible.

Rupea Fortress — A dramatic 14th-century basalt-rock stronghold dominating the surrounding plains. Walk the restored ramparts and learn how this hilltop citadel served centuries of local defense.

Viscri — A UNESCO village known for its white fortified church, preserved rural architecture, and its connection to King Charles III, who has supported conservation efforts here for many years. Walk up to the church and learn how it served simultaneously as a place of worship, community storage and defensive shelter. The village has also become known for its slow-food traditions — your guide can suggest a local spot for lunch using regional, seasonal ingredients, should you wish to stop.

Throughout the day, the itinerary balances structured guiding with unhurried independent time. Your guide is available for questions about history, local culture and practical travel advice at every stop.

Return to Brașov.
