What you can expect
Step beyond Montenegro's coastline and discover a completely different world—one of ancient forests, crystal-clear mountain streams and traditions that have remained almost unchanged for centuries.
Our journey begins with pickup from your accommodation before heading north along one of Montenegro's most spectacular routes. As we follow the dramatic Morača Canyon, the road winds between towering cliffs while the famous Belgrade–Bar railway disappears into tunnels and reappears across breathtaking bridges, creating one of the country's most impressive landscapes.
Soon the scenery changes completely.
Hidden beneath the peaks of Bjelasica lies Biogradska Gora National Park, home to one of Europe's last remaining primeval forests. Some of the towering trees have been growing here for centuries, creating an ecosystem that has survived almost untouched by modern civilisation.
We'll enjoy an easy walk through the forest and around the emerald waters of Biograd Lake, surrounded by ancient trees, wooden paths and the peaceful sounds of nature. Along the way, I'll share local legends, stories about the mountain communities and explain why this remarkable forest has been protected for generations. Keep an eye out for wildlife—deer, foxes, squirrels and many bird species still call this forest home.
After our visit, we'll continue to the mountain town of Kolašin, where Ottoman history meets modern alpine life. We'll stroll through the town, discover its relaxed atmosphere and talk about the traditions that still define northern Montenegro.
This region is famous for its exceptionally clean air, fresh spring water and simple but unforgettable mountain cuisine. Depending on your wishes, we'll have time to enjoy an optional lunch featuring local specialties such as kačamak, cicvara, the famous layered Kolašin cheese, homemade pies and seasonal forest products, all prepared the traditional way.
For those looking for even more spectacular scenery, an optional cable car ride at Kolašin 1600 Ski Centre takes us above 2,000 metres. From the top, endless views stretch across the mountains of Bjelasica, Sinjajevina and Komovi, dotted with traditional shepherd settlements (katuns), grazing sheep and, if we're lucky, even wild horses roaming freely across the highlands.
This isn't simply a visit to a national park.
It's a journey into the quieter, greener and more authentic side of Montenegro—a place where nature still sets the pace of everyday life.
