What you can expect

Visit Áras Uí Chonghaile (The James Connolly Visitor Centre), an award-winning, modern visitor centre in the heart of Belfast’s Gaeltacht Quarter, located just yards from where James Connolly lived on the Falls Road. This immersive visit offers a thought-provoking look at Connolly’s life, ideas, and the impact he had on the history of the island of Ireland.

Follow Connolly’s story from his birth in Edinburgh in 1868 to Irish parents, through his political work, extraordinary travels across Britain and America, and his role as a pioneer of the early trade union movement, to his death in Dublin in 1916. Along the way, you’ll gain deeper insight into the principles that shaped his activism and the legacy he left behind.

The James Connolly Experience is a self-guided audio tour that leads you through the centre—from the interactive exhibition that brings Connolly’s story to life, to the unique Leabharlann Uí Chonghaile library, and on through the centre’s art and historic collections. The tour highlights interactive features and historic artefacts, helping you connect with Connolly’s life as you move through each space.

Audio tour languages available: Irish, English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Mandarin, Polish, and Basque. After your visit, you can also stop by Lena’s Café on-site for a bite to eat (food not included).
