The Magdalena River, Colombia’s most important waterway, completes its journey in Barranquilla, where its waters finally merge with the Caribbean Sea. This experience combines local transportation, coastal landscapes, and nature into an authentic adventure.
Ride through Barranquilla’s traditional Las Flores neighborhood, take the Puerto Mocho train, enjoy a local tuk-tuk ride, and walk toward one of the most unique natural meeting points in Colombia: the mouth of the Magdalena River and the Caribbean Sea. Finish your experience with free time at Puerto Mocho Beach before returning to your hotel.
15 min. Meet your guide
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you toward Las Flores neighborhood. During the journey, you will learn about the city and the significance of this region.
30 min. Train ride to Puerto Mocho
Once at the train station, you will board the Puerto Mocho train and enjoy the coastal views while traveling through this recently revitalized area of Barranquilla. This route offers a different perspective of the city and its surroundings.
15 min. Tuk-tuk ride to La Virgen stop
After arriving at Puerto Mocho station, you will continue by local motorcycle taxi (tuk-tuk) to La Virgen stop, where the walking portion of the experience begins. This short ride lets you experience local transportation while enjoying the landscape around you.
1.5 hrs. Walk toward the Magdalena River mouth
From La Virgen, you will begin an easy walk of approximately 30 minutes toward the point where the Magdalena River meets the Caribbean Sea. Along the way, your guide will explain the environmental and cultural importance of this area while you enjoy panoramic views and photo opportunities. At the meeting point, enjoy time to appreciate this unique landscape where river and sea converge.
1 hr. Free time at Puerto Mocho Beach
After returning from the walk, you will have free time at Puerto Mocho Beach to relax, enjoy the ocean breeze, swim if desired, or purchase food and drinks from local vendors (not included).
15 min. Get back to your hotel
Once you call it a day, the guide and the driver will take you back to your hotel, completing a memorable experience across one of Barranquilla’s most distinctive natural settings.
