Perkara yang anda boleh jangka

  • Rangitoto Island is Auckland's most iconic volcanic landmark, New Zealand's youngest and largest shield volcano, formed by eruptions around 600 years ago. Located in the Hauraki Gulf, just a 25-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Rangitoto is managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) as part of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

The Rangitoto Summit Track is a 2.3km walk each way, climbing approximately 260 metres through striking lava fields and native forest. Most visitors allow 2 to 3 hours for the return walk, including a detour to the lava caves, around 200 metres below the summit. From the top, enjoy panoramic 360-degree views across Auckland city, the Hauraki Gulf and surrounding islands.

Rangitoto is a pest-free wildlife sanctuary. All visitors and bags undergo a mandatory biosecurity check before boarding, and no animals are permitted on the island. There are no shops or cafes, so bring your own food, water and sun protection.

The summit walk is optional, prefer not to climb? Stay near the wharf and enjoy the surroundings instead. Sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes are recommended, the volcanic terrain is uneven in places.

Ferries depart Pier 13, Auckland Ferry Terminal. Mon-Fri: depart Auckland 9:30am, return 3:30pm. Sat, Sun & public holidays: depart Auckland 9:15am or 10:30am, return 2:30pm or 4:00pm.
