What you can expect
When art meets cherry blossoms, when architecture blends into the mountain forests, and when ancient temples light up the night—this is no longer merely a trip, but a meticulously orchestrated springtime symphony.
Act I: Into I. M. Pei’s “Peach Blossom Spring” · Miho Museum & the Cherry Blossom Tunnel. In the afternoon, a private vehicle carries you into the serene hills of Shigaraki, Shiga. Here lies the Miho Museum, a secluded retreat masterfully designed by architect I. M. Pei, inspired by Tao Yuanming’s “Peach Blossom Spring”. Passing through a long tunnel and a suspension bridge, you enter a scene that evokes the classic line: “At first it was very narrow, barely allowing one person through; after a few dozen steps, it suddenly opened into a bright, expansive vista”. The spring-exclusive highlight is the tunnel of weeping cherry blossoms leading to the museum—soft pink branches cascade like a waterfall, enveloping the path. At the tunnel’s end, endless blossoms intertwine with the museum’s pure white silhouette, as if stepping into a living ukiyo-e painting.
Act II: The Illuminated Night Blossoms of a Millennium-Old Temple · Mii-dera.At dusk, we arrive at Mii-dera, the head temple of the Tendai Jimon sect, with a history of over 1,300 years. The temple houses over a hundred National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, from the solemn Tang-style Golden Hall to contemplative dry landscape gardens—every step reveals a new scene. Pagodas, bell towers, and sutra halls are softly outlined in light, while cherry blossoms drift like ethereal pink clouds, glowing mysteriously in the night. Strolling through the grounds, the deep chime of the temple bell (the “Evening Bell of Mii-dera”, one of the Eight Views of Ōmi) resonates, blending illuminated blossoms with the temple’s solemnity, as if time stands still—accompanied only by the gentle spring breeze and falling petals like snow.(Admission fee is to be paid on-site)
Act III: Lake Biwa Canal · A Lyrical Ode to Blossoms and Water. The journey then extends to the First Lake Biwa Canal. Built during the Meiji period, this historic waterway is known as the “King of Canals”. In spring, cherry trees line both sides, forming a long, graceful corridor of blossoms in the air. Petals drift onto the water’s surface, carried gently by the flow, their reflections blurring the line between reality and illusion.
Cherry blossoms are fleeting, but the memory of beauty lasts forever. In this single day, we will guide you through the dreamscape of a master architect, the illuminated night of an ancient temple, and the poetic reflection of blossoms along the water—weaving for you a rich, layered memory of spring. Perfect for those who seek depth, cherish quiet elegance, and prefer to travel free from logistical worries. We look forward to sharing this unforgettable journey with you.
