What you can expect

This short hiking tour will take you around the village of Langada, in surroundings shaped by man and nature since time immemorial. You will learn to interpret the terraced landscape of the Cycladic islands, as we will talk about the need that drove islanders to such intense labour and the symbiotic relationship developed through the process.
We will exit Langada village at its lower part, crossing the gorge of Araklos towards the dry stone terraces of the slopes of Pangos hill. We will have the chance to study dry stone walls and other structures in various states of maintenance and discuss the relation between their form and the local material. Upon covering a circular route, we will pass by the site of recent Dry Stone Workshops, where we will witness and discuss the current efforts realised by local groups in order to preserve and promote the trade of dry stone masonry, a craft included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
