DAY 01: CUSCO, CLOUD FOREST, HIKE Between 5:30 and 6:00 in the morning, our guide will pick you up at the meeting point in our company’s vehicle. From there, we will begin our journey, ascending the winding roads of the Andes, passing through villages and towns until we reach the entrance to the jungle, Ajanaco at 3500m. From this point, we will descend through the lush cloud forest. It is a place full of exotic vegetation, such as orchids, heliconias, and ferns. During this time, we may be able to spot the cock-of-the-rock, the umbrella bird, the trogon, the quetzal, or the orioles. Finally, we will arrive at our lodge to relax and rejuvenate. DAY 02: WATCHTOWER, MACHUWASI LAGOON, AND NIGHT WALK After breakfast, we will take a nature walk to observe birds and monkeys. Next, we will take a 1-hour bus ride to the port of Atalaya, where we will embark on a 30-minute boat ride to our lodge. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to bathe in the river or enjoy a mud bath. After lunch, we will raft through the Machuhuasi lagoon, observing shanshos, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, capybaras, tapirs, and much more. After dinner, we will embark on an intriguing night walk. We will spend the night at the lodge, with private bathrooms and showers. DAY 03: PARROTS SPOT, CEIBA, AND NIGHT WALK At dawn, we will sail to the parrot clay lick to observe these cheerful birds as they feed on the nutrient-rich wall. Afterwards, we will return for breakfast and rest before heading out onto the trails to explore the diverse fauna and flora, including the tallest and thickest tree (ceiba), and possibly spotting monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, capybaras or tapirs. To finish the day, we will take a night walk focusing on insects, amphibians or snakes before spending the night at the lodge. DAY 04: HIKE, ATALAYA, CLOUD FOREST AND CUSCO In the morning, we will explore a trail for the last time to observe the jungle fauna. Later, after a delicious breakfast, we will return by boat to Atalaya, where we will take a van back to Cusco. During the trip, we will have opportunities to spot hummingbirds, orchids, waterfalls and potentially birds and monkeys. After leaving the lush jungle behind, we will cross mountains with spectacular views of the Andes. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Cusco between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
