What you can expect
Join a diasporan, US born Black American guide for a thoughtfully curated day exploring the depth, beauty, and resilience of Afro-Brazilian culture through art, history, and food. Designed for travelers seeking a deeper connection to Brazil beyond the typical tourist experience, this intimate gathering offers space for reflection, learning, and meaningful conversation.
Our day begins at the Museu Afro Brasil, one of the country's most important cultural institutions dedicated to preserving and celebrating the contributions of people of African descent in Brazil. As we move through the museum's powerful collection of art, photography, historical artifacts and contemporary works, we'll explore the stories, struggles, innovations, and cultural influences that have shaped Brazilian society. Through a diasporic lens, we'll engage with themes of identity, resistance, spirituality, creativity, and belonging.
Following our museum experience, we'll continue our journey around the table at Altar Cozinha Ancestral, an acclaimed restaurant dedicated to honoring Afro-Brazilian culinary traditions. Here, food becomes a form of storytelling. Through thoughtfully prepared dishes rooted in ancestral knowledge and local ingredients, we'll experience the living legacy of African influence on Brazilian cuisine. Over a shared meal, participants will have the opportunity to connect, reflect on the day's discoveries, and engage in meaningful dialogue about culture, heritage, and community.
This experience is ideal for curious travelers, creatives, members of the African diaspora, and anyone interested in exploring Brazil through a richer cultural perspective. More than a tour, it is an invitation to connect—with history, with place, and with one another.
