Dam Square, just five-minutes walk from Centraal Station, was created in the 13th century when a dam was built around the river Amstel to prevent the sea from flooding the city. Madame Tussauds is the world famous wax works museum, the Nieuwe Kerk often used for important art exhibitions and Beurs van Berlage, an old stock exchange building now used as a concert hall. The Rembrandt House Museum is located in the house where Rembrandt lived from 1639 to 1658. In 1907 the city of Amsterdam purchased it and opened in 1911 the Rembrandt House Museum.

Here you can also see a spice mill, an oil mill, a bakery museum, a workshop of wooden clomping shoes, a cheese factory and much more.
