Get to know the great mountains of Ecuador with 2 days spent exploring along the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes. The incredible scenery of high cliffs and towering peaks lets you find some of the country's grandest wildlife and learn about the traditions of the people who make the region home.
Day 1: Antisana Volcano.- Set out from Quito early in the morning for the drive toward Pintag and Antisana National Park. Here, you get a look at the fourth-highest active volcano in Ecuador, starting with the lava flows of Antisanilla, and then the huge cliff walls across a narrow canyon where you can see condors cruising in the sky. This is a bio-reserve of condors and Andean birds
Once you ascend into the high country of the páramo, take a walk to observe the beautiful variety of flowers that hug the ground, as well as the glacial moraines and birds that gather around the lakes. Have lunch at a local farmhouse.
Day 2: Cotopaxi Volcano.- Set out from the lodge early in the morning for a scenic drive along the Avenue of the Volcanoes toward Cotopaxi Volcano. Once you arrive at Cotopaxi National Park, hike around the Limpiopungo Lake, located at the foothills of the volcano. Climb aboard a vehicle for a ride up to 14,764 ft (4,500 m), and then ascend even higher on foot to survey the volcano's glaciers. After the descent, lunch in a local Hostería. Return to Quito
