What you can expect

  • Begin your day with a convenient hotel pickup and head to the Angkor Archaeological Park. Start your exploration at Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. Listen to your guide's explanations as you venture into the central chambers of the temple. Learn about the history, myths, and stories depicted on the stone bas-reliefs, the longest stretch of bas-relief carvings in the world.

Next, visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom and continue to the Bayon Temple. Admire the smiling stone faces on the many towers that jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. See its beautifully crafted central towers, covered in more than 200 enormous faces.

Continue to the 11th-century Baphuon Temple, a three-tiered temple mountain built as the state temple. Then, visit Vimeanakas, a celestial temple built at the end of the 10th century in the shape of a three-tier pyramid.

Next, visit the 350-meter-long Terrace of Elephants, which was used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies. Then, visit the famous Terrace of the Leper King. The U-shaped structure is thought by some to have been used as a royal cremation site.

In the early afternoon, visit the jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm, also known as the Tomb Raider Temple. Built in the 13th century, Ta Prohm is one of the most atmospheric of all temples in Angkor. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm is in much the same condition in which it was found, with trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings.
