Learn how to bake a traditional Finnish blueberry rye pie, known as “savolainen mustikkakukko”. Savolainen mustikkakukko has a protected geographical indication (PGI) granted by the EU. The workshop takes place in a 1700s log house in the Finnish countryside with your host, local grandma Paula Okkola. Make the dough, form the base, edges, and lid, and fill the pie with blueberries. Enjoy your creation with rich vanilla sauce and coffee!

Meet your host, local Finnish grandmother Paula, at her home next to the Niinipuu restaurant. Depending on the weather, we'll enjoy a non-alcoholic drink in the garden or inside the house. Don an apron and we'll make the base dough together! Learn how to fill the traditional blueberry pies and bake them in the oven. Whilst baking, Paula will help and guide you and tell history about lake Saimaa, life in the Finnish countryside and stories about her own family. The groups are always small (max.10 persons) so Paula will have time to talk, instruct and answer questions. The workshop space is quiet, private and reserved only for the workshop participants.

After baking, we'll drink tea or coffee and eat the blueberry rye pies with vanilla sauce or ice cream together with Paula. Sometimes other members of Okkola family will join to enjoy blueberry pies and have a chat! You'll get everything that you baked to take away with you as well as the recipe. You'll also have a new skill and great memories to take home with you!
