What you can expect
Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Pokhara to the starting point at Maldhunga or Nayapul. From here, start your rafting adventure as you paddle through exciting whitewater rapids and peaceful stretches of river surrounded by lush hills and mountain views. The journey ends at Mirmi Dam, from where you return to Pokhara by road.
Spend about 4–5 hours per day on the river, navigating through powerful waves, technical rapids, and calm sections ideal for relaxing and enjoying the surrounding scenery. The rapids generally range around Grade III to Grade IV, offering an exciting yet manageable challenge for most adventure travelers.
Pass through steep gorges, lush hillsides, terraced farmland, and remote settlements perched high above the riverbanks. Waterfalls cascade down rocky cliffs and suspension bridges connect villages across the valley, creating an unforgettable Himalayan landscape.
The river valley is also rich in wildlife and birdlife. Spot animals such as monkeys, mongoose, and a variety of birds, and sometimes even signs of leopards in the surrounding forests. Because of its diverse ecosystem and remote environment, the river corridor is particularly attractive for nature lovers and bird watchers.
The Kali Gandaki River holds deep cultural and religious significance in Nepal. The river is named after the Hindu goddess Kali, and it is regarded as a sacred river by many local communities. Historically, the Kali Gandaki valley served as an important trade route connecting Nepal with Tibet and is also part of the pilgrimage trail leading to the famous temple of Muktinath, a major spiritual destination for Hindus and Buddhists.
Along the journey, see traditional villages and terraced farms that reflect the unique lifestyle of the Himalayan communities living in the region. These cultural encounters add a deeper dimension to the adventure, making the trip not only thrilling but also culturally enriching.
