Your adventure begins in Old Cairo, also known as Christian Coptic Cairo, a place of profound spiritual significance. It was here that the Holy Family sought refuge, their presence still palpably felt. Despite their brief stay, the Governor of Fustat, enraged by the falling of idols at Jesus’ approach, sought to kill the Child. They found sanctuary in a cave, above which the Church of Abu Serga (St Sergius) was later built.
This area, including the entire Fort of Babylon, is a revered pilgrimage destination for not only Egyptians but Christians worldwide. A sense of piety and devotion permeates the district.
