The hike will start just below Vernazza train station, in front of the Azienda Agricola La Bottega shop. From there, we will visit the historic center (with its small square overlooking the sea and the distinctive Church of Santa Margherita D'Antiochia), and then we will set off along the Verde Azzurro trail in the direction of Monterosso, following the ancient pedestrian path that connects the two villages. The route will wind through the distinctive terraced landscape of the Cinque Terre, where, over a period of about a thousand years, human activity has profoundly transformed the steep slopes of the hills overlooking the sea to create small, horizontal strips of land (known as terraces or “cian” in the local language) supported by thousands of miles of dry-stone walls. For centuries, these terraces have been used primarily to grow grapes for the production of prestigious wines such as Cinque Terre and Sciacchetrà, both of which are DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) wines. Along the way, we will also be able to enjoy stunning views, particularly of the towns of Vernazza and Monterosso and of the entire Cinque Terre coastline. In about 20–30 minutes, we will arrive at the beautiful lemon grove of the La Bottega farm, in the hamlet of Mavà, where the view of the village of Vernazza is breathtaking. There, we will enjoy a tasting featuring limoncino (made from the lemons that surround us) and focaccia, and for those who wish, we will also offer samples of our liqueurs, made from ingredients sourced from the farm's land, which was reclaimed from neglect, as well as a typical white wine from the Cinque Terre. For children, we will instead offer local, “zero food miles” juices.
