What you can expect

  • Step back in time to explore Iași when it was one of Eastern Europe's most prominent centers of Jewish life. On this comprehensive 4-hour guided walking tour, trace the cultural brilliance, deep faith, and poignant history of a community that once made up over half of the city's population.

Begin your journey in the historic Târgu Cucu quarter at the Great Synagogue of Iași—consecrated in 1671, it stands as the oldest surviving synagogue in Romania.

Uncover a major cultural milestone in the National Theater Park, where Avram Goldfaden established the world's very first professional Yiddish-language theater in 1876. Inside Casa Muzeelor, step through two contrasting chapters of history: celebrate artistic heritage at the Yiddish Theater Museum and pay tribute to victims at the solemn Museum of the Iași Pogrom.

Conclude your tour along the historic “Route of Memory” down to Iași Railway Station, reflecting on the tragic events of June 1941 and the legacy of resilience that defines Iași today.
