Begin your journey with a short drive from Haugesund to Odland Farm, where the fjord keeps the winters mild enough for apples to thrive. Spend the day at a working orchard and have time leftover to enjoy the city center of Haugesund after your tour.
Take a walk through the orchard and learn about its history, planted by the owner's grandfather in 1948. Pick your own apples straight from the trees. In the event of a drizzle, we gear up with light rain gear. With a little heavier rain, we typically wait it out, or we head directly inside for the apple pressing.
Wash, inspect, crush, and press your fruit in a traditional pack press. Then, enjoy a small lunch with local treats in the old stable with freshly pressed apple juice, while the rest of the apple juice is pasteurizing.
See the cider cellar and how the farm's apple cider is made. Watch a demonstration of the champagne method with bottle conditioning, riddling, freezing out the dead yeast sediment, and adjusting the final sugar content to Brut or Sec prior to corking and fitting of the wire hood.
Fill a small bag-in-box pack with your juice to take home. If time allows, stop at the Steinsfjellet with 360 degree view over Haugesund and the surrounding area on the way back.
Cancellation policy note: This tour takes place in all weather conditions. Light rain gear are provided for all participants. Should a participant prefer not to pick apples outdoors due to weather, the indoor apple pressing and lunch will continue as planned — no part of the tour is canceled. Cancellations with full refund are accepted up to 24 hours in advance. Please note that rescheduling is not possible, as this tour is designed for cruise visitors with fixed departure times.
