This rewarding 6 mile hike will bring you through hemlock and spruce to the Gavan Hill ridge at just over 2,000 feet. Once above the treeline, you'll have breathtaking panoramic views of Sitka Sound, Mt. Edgecumbe, and Baranof Island. You'll walk below the towering peaks of Harbor Mountain where the trail is lined with wildflowers in June and July. Learn about the history, flora, and fauna while taking in the natural beauty of the Tongass National Forest on an unforgettable hike! *Note - This hike can be done in either direction. Level of Difficulty: Difficult. The hiking time is about 4.5 hours. The distance, steep elevation gain, and uneven surfaces of this trek require participants to be accustomed to physical outdoor recreation in all kinds of weather, without any facilities of any kind, and only for those who are physically fit.
