It is located 3 km north of Mykonos Town. So, whether you are traveling from Athens ports (Piraeus, Rafina, or Lavrio) or another island on a typical passenger ferry, or cruise ship you will arrive at, or depart from the New Mykonos Port (Tourlos). The old port in Mykonos is located in Mykonos town (Chora) and it operated as the main port for ferries till 20 years ago. Recently, it has been used by some fishermen and yachts.

Mykonos Town

The town is a Cycladic village built amphitheatrically, also known as Chora following the common practice in Greece when the name of the island itself is the same as the name of the principal town. At the location of "Fanari" which translates to "lantern" in Greek, the scenic coastal road also offers some of the most spectacular views on the island just 7 km from Chora. The Lighthouse of Armenistis (Faros Armenistis) was built in 1891, following the sinking of an English steamship off the island’s coasts. The Lighthouse became a famous attraction because of its imposing presence and its award-winning mechanism, at the Paris Internationa Expo. Today, this mechanism is kept at the Aegean Maritime Museum, located in downtown Mykonos, in the Tria Pigadia area. You can also visit the Armenistis area where the Lighthouse is located and enjoy the unique view of the neighboring island of Tinos.
