Perkara yang anda boleh jangka

  • Discover the real Bengaluru on this food and history walking tour through the old city — the side of Bangalore most visitors never see. In a few unhurried hours you'll trade the malls and tech parks for centuries-old market lanes, a hidden temple, one of Asia's great markets, and a street-food feast to finish. Part heritage walk, part street-food crawl, all local.
We begin at Chickpete Metro, in the heart of a quarter laid out in the 16th century when Kempe Gowda founded the city around its market wards. The narrow lanes still hum with the wholesale silk and textile trade that gave the area its name — a working maze of hand-painted signs, hidden courtyards, and handcarts that has defied every attempt at a straight line.
Tucked into the din stands a pocket of stillness: a serene Shwetambar Jain temple whose marble interiors feel worlds away from the streets outside. The noise falls back, the light softens, and the craftsmanship rewards a slow look — a reminder that the old city holds sanctuaries as readily as commerce.
From here we make our way along Avenue Road, the spine of the old city, packed shoulder to shoulder with booksellers, jewellers and century-old sweet shops, jasmine and frying snacks drifting from every side lane.
The road leads to KR Market — Krishna Rajendra Market — the beating heart of the old city and one of Asia's busiest flower markets. It stands where Tipu Sultan's forces once clashed with the British, and today it's pure colour and negotiation: mountains of marigold and rose, porters balancing impossible loads, vendors' calls filling a space that never truly sleeps. We take our time here, through the flower, fruit and wholesale sections, for a slice of daily life few visitors ever see up close.
Nearby stand the remains of Bangalore Fort — the stronghold Kempe Gowda first raised in 1537, later rebuilt in stone by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. We pause outside its surviving Delhi Gate, where the walls still speak of the sieges that shaped the city, then step down to the metro for a short ride south to the evening's grand finale.
VV Puram Food Street is where locals eat, and where our day becomes a feast. As evening settles, the lanterns glow and the griddles hiss. We ease in with a congress bun — a soft roll hiding a punch of spicy peanuts — washed down with fresh avocado or sitaphal juice. Then the fryer: bajji in four avatars, crackling hot and impossible to stop at one. Gossamer-thin dose slicked with butter. Warm holige whose jaggery filling tastes homemade. Peri peri paneer, pav bhaji in a cloud of butter and spice, a tall jalebi paired with cool rabdi. And to close, a spongy rasgulla and a stick of kulfi melting faster than you can finish.
No rushing, no checklist — just history you can walk through and flavours you'll remember. Come hungry. Leave happy.
