The rooms and hotel facilities were very dirty. Carpets haven’t been vacuumed in weeks, the glasses were dirty the bed head was stained.

Shuttle free to airport
During PKPP, breakfast was not provided but it was changed to lunch or dinner. The meals provided delicious. The hotel also free shuttle to airport.

Near to the airport. Plenty of restaurants around (walking distance). Easy to get grabcar. Highly recommended. Will stay here again.

Very bad this hotel request non smoking room but given smoking room and no hot water waiting 5 minutes the water not hot.. table lamp dirty no cleanning.. the matress very hard.. better i chosse hotel backpack.. im very disappointed this hotel

Rest before the jungle.
Pavilion provided us with a place to recovver from the 38 hour journey. It was peaceful and located near real local cuisine. I will stay there on my next Bornio trek.

A rundown hotel with a bad attitude
When we arrived, having booked the hotel and paid for a non-smoking room, we were given not only a smoking room, but an INSIDE smoking room, meaning it had no windows! It stank! I travel a lot, and this was the first time I've ever immediately gone back to reception and demanded a different room! They quickly assigned us a different one, on a non-smoking floor. It was twice as big and didn't smell bad and it was clean, but it was just generally worn-out: the paint, the carpet, etc. The towels were threadbare. We realized that night and the next morning that very few people were staying there, so why did they try to palm us off with a sub-standard room? No idea. Anyway, I didn't give the worst rating for the hotel staff because the people in the restaurant were very friendly at dinner and breakfast.

Booked this because it was not too far from airport, and we were arriving fairly late in day. Peeling wallpaper in room. Impossible to shower without collecting water around tub. On check in, we were told we could get room service or eat at restaurant till 10pm. Called room service around 730, was told not available. Went to restaurant, only a scant 5 item buffet available, had to go down the street to get a meal. The area is a bit sketchy, but found good food.

You get what you pay for
Stayed for one night on the way to Kinabatangan river trip: the place is dingy and in need of renovation. It loks dirty, even though it is not; bed sheets do not look clean; the walls are thin and you can hear every word of discussion next door; I could not relax there and could not sleep. Breakfast was very good though. Also, complimentary shuttle from the airport. Very helpful and pleasant staff. However, I would not stay there again, even for one night.

A fiasco.
Our reservation was not found upon check-in - sadly, the hotel somehow "misplaced" our booking. That being said, they did put us up in a family room - however, the room they gave us had quite a few issues. The wallpaper was peeling, the ceiling vents were left open & aircon was merely blowing chilled air (instead of being cold). The bathroom, frankly, smelled as if it hasn't been cleaned in ages. The next morning, the hotel restaurant had to check with the front desk as to our free breakfast (as we were not in the guest list!) Somehow, it was all resolved upon checkout as the front desk "miraculously" found our booking. Needless to say, it was NOT a good stay. The only redeeming quality? The wifi.

Best option near the airport
Place was great and right next to the airport. The staff was helpful but got our shuttle to the airport late even though we told them 3 times to have it ready at a certain time and it came in with 10 min delay. The wifi was also a bit faulty. Overall, I would recommend if you want to be close to the airport for an early flight. Great restaurants next door too.

Great location and helpful staff
Great hotel and they offered a free shuttle service to local attractions and supermarket. There is also a free shuttle to the airport. And also a massage service in the lobby. Free bottled water too!

Average stay but confortable.
Three day at the Hotel, easy check in and check out. Free local newspaper however need to self pickup at check in counter. Breakfast is average combination with local and English breakfast. Many restaurant nearby. Near with government office agency.

A decent hotel, if some rough spots
The room was excellent, very clean although some amenities were lacking. Hot water was inconsistent, sometimes more lukewarm. The wifi speed struggled at times. Otherwise, as I mentioned above, the room was good. As for the location, it is located approximately 7 miles out of Sandakan's city centre, in a very quiet area. Service by the staff was excellent, very helpful indeed, and they recognized our reservation through Hotels.com immediately.

Reasonably good stay
Comfortable stay, but probably good idea to ask for North or West facing if you're sensitive to noise. The breakfast choice is limited. There is butter for your bread, but no knife for your butter so you may need your spoon to butter your bread :-(

Good budget hotel
Located close to airport and Sepilok but quite far from town. Service and parking facility are good. Very bad shower over bath design with no drainage from the edges of the bath tub which must have been a nightmare to clean for the chambermaids. Ground floor cafe situated next to a rubbish dump. Insufficient amount and poor rationing of breakfast dishes - most dishes were emptied by 8am and we were told there was no more to replenish.

Out of traffic jams
Being a frequent traveler to Sandakan and knowing that the traffic jam is pretty hectic during day time, it is a good hotel to stay as it has avoided a lot of the hectic jam. However, the room that I stayed in somehow had a problem with the aircon as it was very noisy when turned to high during the middle of the night. Other than that, I would say that the cleanliness needs to really look into it. It is not very dirty as it's pretty new but I would expect somewhat better cleanliness for the price I paid for hotel in Sandakan.

We chose for location near airport. Free shuttle. Mixed experience. First night, there was a very loud political rally right behind hotel. We were so tired from the trip, so we did not bother to complain, just put ear plugs, and then slept through noise. Second night, the hotel moved us to the front of the hotel. This time, we could hear the freeway noise. And no political rally that night. We should have stayed put. Hotel has no ATM to change into local money. We tried to pay final bill in $ US but they would not take bills smaller than $50 and we did not want change in ringgit (we were leaving). So we just charged the bill. Staff was generally very polite and helpful. Front desk guy Moi was especially pleasant. I would recommend this hotel with caveat. Depends on what travelers want to do. We went on a 3 day trip to Sukau and the tour people would pick us up at any hotel of choice. So we chose Pavilion. If people have interest in downtown Sandakan, check other hotels out.
