Asistí a una boda que se celebraba en la Hospedería Santa Cruz y me alojé allí también. El sitio es espectacular, vistas increíbles y un complejo por descubrir. Por cierto, que celebrarán la boda allí fué todo un acierto por el sitio y la organiacion.

Lo que más me gustó fue el trato tan amable del personal, las habitaciones renovadas, y por supuesto el enclave único de la Hospedería. Se nota el gran esfuerzo que están haciendo para mejorar todos los servicios.

Amazing experience
Thoroughly enjoyed this unique location and very very interesting historically . The whole area is beautiful which seems fitting for the many people who are buried here . Special mention to Pablo who was exceptionally polite and welcoming and supplied us with much information . Customer service at its best ! Would give 5 stars for everything except the beds - they were on the hard side but it did not detract from our time there . It really should be on your ‘to do’ list - you won’t regret it . It was a phantastic experience at the monastery, which I can recommend to everybody who is willing to strip down on the comfort of standard hotels. A big bonus was the proximity to the massive monument of The Valley of the Fallen, which I was able to explore after the ordinary tourists left.

Me gusta el sitio, paisaje, silencio, naturaleza, magnifico, el trato personal es bueno y amable, las habitaciones y hospederia en general estan limpias, pero le hace falta una restauracion en el mobiliario y habitaciones q para mi opinion estan muy dejadas en ese sentido.

Quiet contemplation far from the madding crowd
Unique and peaceful location in Valle de Cuelgamuros about 15km from nearest town and 6 km up on top of the mountain, beneath the 150 metre Cross. Car needed. Cannot access basilica without going downhill to the fork and then uphill again. In the evening Guardia Civil man the security gates at the public main road.Staying in the hospedaria gives free admission to Valle de los Caidos (normally 9 euros per person). Receptionist friendly & very pleasant as are all the Hospedaria staff who are eager, welcoming & anxious to please. Restaurant guests eat in a conservatory style area, hospedaria guests eat in the refectory. Lunch 11 euros/dinner 10 euros including bread roll, jug of water and bottle of Rioja filling the void inside with plain basic food; breakfast bread roll,butter,jam,cup of coffee,a small box of cereal.Magnificent view from room window. Lofty ceilings, old furniture, small half bath with shower attachment. When the wind blew hard there was a slight draught as often happens in older buildings but when the central heating came on,the room became warm and comfortable. The building is like an old convent with austere yet elegant public areas, cells for former occupants. I did not sleep well only because my mattress felt worn, & a modern bathroom would have been much preferable, but I very much enjoyed the experience of staying here in this historical building. The price for the room was good, the staff and other Spanish guests were nice and I would stay again.

Una experiencia para no repetir nunca
La peor experiencia que he tenido nunca en un hotel. Dos camas y una mesilla. Todo viejo, sucio, abandonado. No hay bar, ni recepcion, ni nada ni nadie a quien acudir si tienes cualquier problema. No hay telefono, ni televisión, ni wifi y la cobertura de movil mala. En los accesos no hay luz asi que si llegas de noche en medio del campo tienes que guiarte con una linterna. Estando aislado y a oscuras en medio del campo la puerta de acceso esta siempre abierta por lo que, aun sin ser miedoso/a se puede sentir una gran inseguridad. A mi edad, habiendo viajado bastante por turismo y por trabajo, y sin ser muy exigente, concluyo que el hotel no reune ni las más mínimas condiciones de higiene y servicios. Se trata de una hospederia y ya sabia que iba a un lugar austero, pero la austeridad es otra cosa.

Great location
We stayed at Hospederia de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caidos for one night. Beautiful quiet location. Nice clean rooms with comfortable beds and large bathrooms. Obviously no TV, wifi or lifts but free parking nearby. We had an evening meal of three courses, wine and coffee for 10 euros each. The only drawback was that most of the staff spoke no English and we struggled with our limited Spanish. Certainly an experience.

Vétuste, mal entretenu et sale. La chambre est mal nettoyée (la précédente locataire semblait être blonde aux vues de ses cheveux trouvés dans la chambre), les lits sentent, les couvertures sont en parti trouées, la porte d'entrée présente des fentes permettant de voir dans la chambre depuis le couloir. Les meubles sont vieux et peu entretenus. La demi-pension fait regretter les restaurants scolaires. Le repas est servi dans une grande salle avec le personnel de l'abbaye, c'est très bruyant et aucun choix dans la menu n'est possible. De plus, le repas est servi à 9H, notre arrivée à 9H15 a été suivie par des remarques assez désobligeantes en espagnol des serveuses. Personnel ne parle pas un mot d'Anglais. Impossibilité de check out matinal, 9H minimum, qui coïncide d'ailleurs avec l'heure du petit déjeuner. Dans les mêmes conditions que le repas du soir. Seul point positif, le cadre qui est très jolie. Promenade dans la forêt proche possible.

Threw my key at the receptionist and walked away!
If you want to explore El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen monument stay in Madrid and make it a day trip. I stupidly booked this hotel and ended up not even staying there a night. Way too remote! I didn't have a car and was relying on taxis which made me vulnerable! This could be a five star resort in the right hands but not under current management. It should go back to being a monastery under present conditions! When I first entered the hotel it took me awhile to find a human being to help me. That's how deserted and lifeless the place was. And then the person I finally got couldn't speak English. This is how Spain wants to improve its tourist industry and economy?
