Noordwijk is best-known as a seaside resort with a big beach, lovely promenade and numerous sidewalk cafés and restaurants. It's also located between Amsterdam and The Hague, which is perfect for a day of shopping!
Noordwijk was once a small fishing village which gained importance in the 19th century after someone discovered that the soil was perfect for flower bulb farming. In the wink of an eye, hundreds of flower bulb farmers settled in and around the town and focused on growing tulips and daffodils.
Today, Noordwijk is a popular seaside resort on the coast of the province of South-Holland. Look out to the sea from Koningin Wilhelminaboulevard, enjoy Noordwijk's gorgeous beach with the kids and visit the old, white lighthouse which dates back to 1921.
Nature lovers will enjoy the beautiful colours of Keukenhof, which is only 10 km away from Noordwijk. The Jan Verwey Natuurcentrum is also a great place to visit. There's an exhibition on the region's flora and fauna, which is great if you want to learn more about it.
The town is so well located that you can easily combine your stay with a day of shopping or culture in Amsterdam or The Hague and return to its peaceful environment and enjoy an evening walk on the beach.
The town is easy to explore on foot or by bus if you want to explore areas farther away. If you're staying for longer hiring a bicycle is a must so you can explore the nature and the seaside at a leisurely pace. If you're travelling by car, you will have to pay for parking in both Noordwijk-Binnen and Noordwijk aan Zee.
The town's location between Amsterdam and The Hague makes it easy to reach by car and public transport. You can park your car cheaply at Langevelderslag.
Noordwijk is the ideal holiday destination if you want to enjoy the beach and the nature and still be close to a bigger city. Why not book your trip and find out for yourself?
