This is a very good hotel. Everything was excellent. Unfortunately, the “American breakfast” is not much of a diversion from the Japanese breakfast. The American breakfast needs a serious upgrade. That aside, and excellent hotel.

Our stay got off to a bad start when receptionist at check in said our reservation was for one person and that we had to pay an extra 6000 yen for two nights. I said the reservation was definitely made for two, but she said no. So I reluctantly agreed to pay. I finally found my reservation that confirmed I was right. When I went back to show receptionist she said I didn’t have to pay the extra 6000 yen. That was it. No apologies. Not the typical Japanese courtesy. Most of the remaining staff were very courteous and helpful. Maybe this receptionist was just having a bad day. The hotel was nice and quiet surrounded with beautiful trees and located near a very popular outlet. The buffet breakfast was very good.

Karuizawa princely stay
Hotel was near train station with bus service provided. The cottage we stayed is very near the ski slope and karuizawa shopping outlet with tons of shops. Karuizawa old Ginza street is just further away. The cottage was clean, spacious and amenities all provided. As we were only staying 2 nights, we rejected Housekeeping to support hotel’s eco programme and were given a ¥1000 voucher which wife used to buy some souvenir at the lobby as we were checking out. Overall a wonder stay except that cottage was very cold at night. Not sure if it was the weather or we didn’t know how to use the heater in the room properly! 😅

The hotel is close to train station and shopping mall, it's a 10 min walk if u missed the shuttle bus. The room is clean. However, I don't know why the front desk staff refused to book a table for us in Nakakaruizawa directly, he needed us to talk to the restaurant owner ourselves. I'm not sure if he would still insist if the restaurant owner doesn't speak English.

The cottage was warm and cozy. It was great for a small group to share the cottage with a small living space. However, it was quite a shame for the kitchen not to equip a microwave. Nonetheless, it was a great stay and it was very close to the outlet for those who love to shop!

Beautiful, spacious and clean. Good service
We had a cottage all to ourselves and the place is really spacious for our family of 4. Due to the low season, our cottage is near the reception which makes it easy even to walk out. As it was raining quite heavily during the period, the hotel provided us with door to door shuttle service. The staff are always so polite and willing to help us. We love the place and will definitely come back again.

Old one bedroom cottage but nice view!
The one bedroom cottage was very old already and the bathroom was really old and dirty because of the wood! And the room was very dusty! On The second day they changed another room for me which is better and more clean and I appreciated that! Many friendly staffs there but one short hair young lady in the cottage reception was really not helpful! I asked for help to book a restaurant because I cannot talk in Japanese and she just dial the number and pass me the phone and asked me to talk, and I said I cannot speak Japanese and she still asked me to speak! I asked very nicely I just wonder why she had to do that?and she know English as well. The outlet is just next to the hotel which is very convenient!

The general ambience was nice, in particular the night view, which gave a very relaxing vibe. We were arranged a room closest to the passage to the hotspring area which suited us a lot with a person with limited mobility. Very thoughtful!

Shuttle bus to terminal is not so frequent (~every 30 mins) and guests with big luggages have to stand with the crowd, with NO separate arrangement even per request. English level of staff is not good enough to communicate with guest. However, i must praise the staff who reply email promply and helpful way to receive package and store luggage one day prior to our checkin for us.

Cottage holiday in Karuizawa
We stayed in one of the refurbished cottages. The underfloor heating was a welcome feature to keep the place toasty warm. We also liked the location although I can imagine walking to the nearby mall and food court would be a lot more challenging in the snow! A special mention to the helpful staff - we had to find a nearby hospital for a checkup and they provided a lot of assistance. We'd definitely like to return once the kids are older and able to learn how to ski.

It's probably my fault rather than the hotel's. I was expecting the usual Prince standard when we booked this cottage but it was probably catered for skiiers that would trade comfort for convinience. We stayed there for three nights over the weekends, because my agent made a mistake and can not confirm our rooms from Prince West. As I needed to book rooms for the three of us in a couple of days and reviews of Prince East was quite good, I thought it was a good idea and fun to try the cottage. It turned out to be quite a disappointing experience. First, the cottage is small and run down. It says 2 rooms and 4 beds but then we found out that it has two beds in the living room. So it's technically a one bedroom suite. The beds are on wheels and the floor is wood so when I tried to sit on the bed with my back against the wall( Which is necessary because there was no sofa), the bed would roll away from the wall! There were only one pillow per bed which was hard and small and I needed to wrap a bath towel on it every night. The toilet has separate bath and bowl area and the bath area has stained floor, probably caused by the rusty radiator. There were no water basin so if you need to wash your face or brush your teeth, you have to use the small kitchen sink outside in the living room. Unfortunately, this sink also comes with a kitchen sink type of tap so it's quite difficult to wash your face. Its vastly over priced. Book the hotel rooms instead.

Nice hotel but old amenities
Overall, we had a good experience in Prince Hotel Karuizawa East. There are shuttle buses running every 30 minutes from Karuizawa train station to the hotel in round route which makes us easy to travel to thw train station and get to different spots. The room is clean and tidy however, the amenities are a bit old and the hotel charged my infant 1200 yen for the breakfast buffet.

The cottage was cozy and clean, though not new. The Prince Hotel complex is gorgeous, as part of a ski resort. The cottage was right on the slope. We went in summer to escape the Tokyo heat, so everything was green and lush, and the morning was cool and nice. The breakfast was fine, but not spectacular compared to other hotel breakfasts in Japan, or the other Prince Hotels adjacent to this. Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. WiFi was excellent in the cottage.

Excellent hotel choice in Karuizawa!
Excellent location not far from the train station and the famous outlet mall in Karuizawa. The hotel is spacious, with excellent Western style room. Onsen downstairs is spacious and very enjoyable. Wifi is quick and free. Staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended hotel!

Advertise as a cost cottage but just a Snow Shack
Advertised as a cottage that was a huge price. But what we got as a room was a a shock with very little heating and it was -14 degrees celcius. The hotel offered only small electric heater for this very small 2 br cottage. They said another small heater would short circuit the entire cottage. This hotel is disorganized and staff untrained. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. You can still ski.
