Charlottenlund is a district in northern Copenhagen, located on the Baltic coast. The district is famed for Strandvejen, with its magnificent mansions and manors that are home to many of Denmark's elite. On your holiday you can visit various cultural sites, go horse riding, relax on the beach or enjoy the beautiful scenery.
A great number of the district's sights can be found in the magnificent nature area Charlottenlund Forest, popularly referred to as "Lunden". The forest offers something for visitors all year round and is a great place to explore and enjoy getting back to nature.
If you like speed and excitement, a visit to Charlottenlund Racetrack is simply a must. Here you can bet on the horses several times a week and enjoy the flutters in your stomach as your favourite runs across the line first. Races usually take place on Sundays and Wednesdays.
If you visit Charlottenlund during summer, you should not miss out on a visit to Charlottenborg Beach Park, situated around Charlottenlund Fort. There are large lawns here where children and adults can relax and have fun, along with a small but beautiful sandy beach. The fort was built between 1883 and 1886 and the large cannons are still visible today.
Do not miss out on the Ordrupgaard Museum if you have an interest in art and culture. Here you can see one of northern Europe's finest collections of Danish and French art from the 1800s to the start of the 1900s, French impressionism and the Danish Golden Age. The museum appeals to both children and adults and offers changing exhibitions, an art park where you can get close to the art as well as an art playground featuring one of Olafur Eliasson's works.
Visitors from the UK can make the most of Charlottenlund’s proximity to Copenhagen, with its busy international airport. Many people visit on a day trip, as it only takes 15 minutes to travel there on the train from Copenhagen Central Station. And there are plenty of experiences regardless of the time of year you visit.
