Boat Quay

After a busy day, come and join the mix of locals and visitors for a drink down by the waterside in this stylish entertainment district.

Found a short distance inland from the mouth of the Singapore river, Boat Quay was an important centre of business and commerce in the mid 19th century, a hub of exchange and culture. While the economic heart of the city has moved elsewhere, the area remains buzzing, and it's easy to see why. Elegant renovations have turned shops into bars, while warehouses have become nightclubs and restaurants. This is a very popular area with a lot of local people after a hard day at the office.Allow yourself to be charmed by the lapping of the river as you dine al fresco in the cool of the evening, after a hot afternoon in the city. The varied seafood of the region is a speciality here, and there are scores of eateries for you to choose from. Noodles cooked in the local fashion are a big favourite, and there's also plenty of international cuisine available.Bars along the riverside are the most tourist-oriented, but if you venture a few streets back, you're more likely to be able to mix with the people of Singapore. The prices are also much more reasonable here. There's also a pedestrianised area where you can enjoy some evening shopping.Found in the city centre on the south bank of the river, Boat Quay is easily walkable from many of the central hotels. It is also serviced by bus, and there are three different MRT stations close at hand. Some on-street parking is available.

We had dinner beside the river. Very atmospheric if you are interested in the city’s history as a trading port.
