Enjoy the nature around Arcen, a village in the southeast of the Netherlands. Go boating, walking in the dunes or spend a relaxing day in Germany.

The small town of Arcen is in the province of Limburg, a stone's throw from the German border. The village's proximity to a huge nature reserve and the Maas River offer plenty of things to do for nature lovers.

Arcen's location means that it has changed hands many times over the centuries. In the 16th century the region belonged to the Duchy of Gelre, but is has also belonged to the Spanish, Prussians, Austrians and French. It didn't really become part of the Netherlands until the 19th century.

Arcen may be small, but it has a lot to see and do! Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while strolling through the village or relaxing at a sidewalk café on the Maas. If you like lager, why not head for the Hertog Jan Brewery?

Culture lovers will love the beautifully architected Arcen Castle and its exquisitely landscaped gardens.

There's also a lot to do around Arcen. Take a boat down the Maas or start the day out in nature at the National Park De Maasduinen. You can go mountain biking, horse riding or trekking with the kids.

If you plan to spend a week or more in and around Arcen there are a number of day trips that are well worth doing. For example, you could visit nearby Venlo or pop over to Germany and spend a day in Düsseldorf.

From the centre of Arcen, you can walk to the castle gardens or the Maas where you can walk along the river. You can also hire a bicycle and explore the area or head out to Maasduinen. Longer distances are best travelled by car or bus.

If you’re travelling around the Netherlands by car and are coming from the north, the A73 will get you to Arcen. If you're coming from the west, follow the route through 's-Hertogenbosch or Eindhoven. If you're travelling by public transport, take the train to Venlo and then the bus to Arcen.

Discover what Limburg has to offer and why this village is called 'The pearl of the Maas'!

OK, but definitely not value for money.
"I did find the room, although clean, one of the most uncomfortable I have had. Pillow was horrible and the bedding not much better. Could really use a little modernisation but most of all, lose the pillows for better ones, horrible nights sleep."

"We stayed here for 3 weeks after flying in from the US to visit family in the nearby area. We didn't want to be in a hotel for 3 weeks as we would find that claustrophobic. This was the ideal solution. The park staff were excellent and could communicate easily in English and German if needed. It ..."

It's a nice little town. Cobbled Street, by the river. The hotel is in the center, surrounded by restaurant, walking distance from the river, walking distance to Arcen Castle and its amazing gardens.
