School holidays are\u00a0just around the corner. And for parents, this means just one thing \u2013 finding ways to keep your children out of your hair.\u00a0Heading to a theme park is an easy way to keep the kiddos occupied for hours at a time, and in West Malaysia, families are spoilt for choice.<\/p>\n

Legoland\u00a0Malaysia Resort remains a national favourite, and a visit here makes for a fantastic\u00a0staycation\u00a0\u2013 especially if you have toddlers in tow. You\u2019ll find rides that run the gamut on the scare scale, and there\u2019s an awesome water park for water babies, too.<\/p>\n

Lego\u00a0Lowdown<\/strong><\/h2>\n

More than 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions spread across\u00a0Legoland theme park and water park, so if you\u2019re coming only for a day, it\u2019s best to arrive just before the gates open at 10am. Another\u00a0crucial tip? Buy your tickets in advance online so that you won\u2019t have to join the snaking queues at the front.<\/p>\n

Start your day in the theme park. It can take\u00a0five to six hours to tackle the main rides, leaving you with about three hours to splash around in the water park. Resist the temptation to visit the shops near the theme park entrance \u2013 get on the rides as fast and as early as you can. There will be time at the end of the day for\u00a0some retail therapy.<\/p>\n

You will<\/em> feel pressed\u00a0for time, though, especially if you have a toddler or preschooler in your brood who\u2019ll need a nap during the day. If you want to visit both parks at a more relaxed pace, it\u2019s a good idea to book an overnight stay at\u00a0Legoland Hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Between rides, you\u2019ll find loads of food choices, but be prepared for more junk food than healthy fare. The\u00a0Market Restaurant\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0Asian Deli\u00a0are our top picks for variety and for meals that are\u00a0more nutritionally balanced. You might want to pack a picnic or at least some snacks, as prices run high.<\/p>\n

Theme Park Highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Stop 1: Lego City Driving School<\/strong><\/p>\n

Head east towards the Lego City area, with a first stop at the\u00a0Driving School. Waiting times for this ride become unbearably long by midafternoon, as it\u2019s popular with kids of all ages.<\/p>\n

Stop 2: Boating School (young kids) or Rescue Academy (kids 6 and up)<\/strong><\/p>\n

From there, rush to\u00a0Boating School, where queues move at a snail\u2019s pace. (Note: older kids might find this ride a little mundane.) If you\u2019ve got kids aged at least six and up in your party, skip Boating school altogether and head to\u00a0Rescue Academy,\u00a0where they can race against time on pint-sized fire engines.<\/p>\n

Queues for\u00a0Lego City Airport\u00a0are relatively short; we highly recommend it for the under-fives.<\/p>\n

Stop 3: Land of Adventure<\/strong><\/p>\n

Things start to get a little more thrilling as you approach the north part of the park, where the Land of Adventure lies. Get wet at\u00a0Dino Island\u00a0\u2013 a flume ride featuring a big drop at the end. If that sounds a tad too wild, duck\u00a0into\u00a0Pharaoh\u2019s Revenge\u00a0to test your skills at firing lasers.\"legoland-dino\"<\/p>\n

Break Time: Imagination Zone<\/strong><\/p>\n

Take\u00a0a well-deserved break when you reach the Imagination zone. Head indoors into the air-conditioned\u00a0Build & Test\u00a0to\u00a0cool off from the sweltering\u00a0tropical sun. Or enjoy one of four 4D features at Lego Studio.\u00a0You\u2019ll also find a baby-care station here where you can feed or change your wee one in privacy and comfort.<\/p>\n

Put your feet up while your toddler or preschooler\u00a0explores\u00a0Duplo\u00a0Playtown, an enclosed, shaded play area near a row of snack and drink kiosks.<\/p>\n

Stop 4: Lego Kingdoms<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recharged, continue towards Lego Kingdoms and hop onto\u00a0The Dragon\u00a0for a bracing, white-knuckle roller-coaster ride. Those too little or too scared to take up the gauntlet should try Dragon\u2019s Apprentice, a much tamer version of the Dragon.<\/p>\n

Stop 5: Lego Technic Zone<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lego\u00a0Technic\u00a0Zone is home\u00a0to Project X, a zippy don\u2019t-miss thrill ride that\u2019s not for the faint-hearted.\u00a0The Aquazone\u00a0Wave Racers ride\u00a0is another popular hit, so be prepared to queue. But it\u2019s well worth the wait just to beat the heat! If you have time, book a slot for your older kiddies at\u00a0Lego\u00a0Mindstorms,\u00a0where they can design and build robots.<\/p>\n

Last Stop: Miniland<\/strong><\/p>\n

End your Legoland theme park day at\u00a0Miniland,\u00a0where you\u2019ll find quaint, scaled-down Lego models and detailed miniatures of streets and monuments around the world. Time to whip out your cameras or phones for some memorable snapshots!<\/p>\n

Take things up a notch with the\u00a0Lego Slide Racers,\u00a0where you can pitch yourself against others and check out who\u2019s the speediest swimmer.<\/p>\n

End on a high by packing the whole family onto a tube at\u00a0Red Rush,\u00a0a 312-foot-long curving track.\u00a0Duplo\u00a0Splash Safari, with its shorter slides and interactive Duplo mascots,\u00a0is perfect for tiny tots.<\/p>\n

Each suite has ample room to comfortably accommodate\u00a0a family and features a separate sleeping area for kids furnished with a cosy bunk and trundle bed. The\u00a0in-room\u00a0treasure hunt has little ones solving a series of puzzles to find a hidden prize \u2013 an amusing extra touch.<\/p>\n

If that doesn’t float your boat, a hotel that will make Mummy and Daddy happier is\u00a0the Doubletree by Hilton Johor Bahru<\/a>, where signature gooey chocolate-chip cookies await you at check-in.<\/p>\n
