The Pinnacles, Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

With a stunning landscape like something out of\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>, the\u00a0Pinnacles Desert<\/a>\u00a0in Western Australia\u2019s\u00a0Nambung\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0is out of this world. The spiky spires of limestone for which the site is named are the result of seashell deposits exposed to the elements for thousands of years, and with hundreds and hundreds of these dotted along the sprawling yellow sands, this is a destination worthy of any bucket list.<\/p>\n

Roughly a two-hour drive from\u00a0Perth<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and a pretty coastal one \u2013 the Pinnacles is a great\u00a0daytrip\u00a0from the Western Australia capital. Stop in at the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre to learn more about these dramatic structures, then set off from there by car or on foot to see them for yourself.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

EdgeWalk, Canada<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The only extreme attraction on our list,\u00a0EdgeWalk is a hands-free walk 116 storeys over the city around the roof of Toronto<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0CN Tower<\/a>, the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere. It’s a must for adrenaline junkies, with the ledge you walk on only 1.5m wide!\u00a0EdgeWalk\u00a0is open seasonally (it next opens 11 April 2016).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Taal Volcano, the Philippines<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Taal<\/p>\n

Taal Volcano<\/a>\u00a0is an active volcano only two hours south of Manila that you can not only visit, but summit. It\u2019s also the world\u2019s\u00a0smallest<\/em>\u00a0active volcano. What\u2019s even more remarkable is that you\u2019ll find it on an island in a lake on yet another island \u2013 and it has another lake inside its main crater. Confused yet? Never mind, all will become clear on the hike to the summit, which takes about 45 minutes and rewards you with spectacular views of Lake Taal, Vulcan Point (the interior lake), and the dramatic surrounds.<\/p>\n

Though Taal has at least 30 eruptions on record, rest assured that volcanologists are keeping a close eye on it, so don\u2019t let a potential eruption deter you. Book a tour from\u00a0Manila<\/a>\u00a0or from\u00a0Talisay<\/a>\u00a0on Lake Taal.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mu Ko<\/strong>Ang<\/strong>Thong National Park, Thailand<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The virtually untouched 42-island archipelago that makes up\u00a0Koh\u00a0Samui<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Mu Ko\u00a0Ang\u00a0Thong National Park<\/a>\u00a0in Thailand mostly flew under\u00a0people\u2019s\u00a0travel radar until it was used as the location for the 2000 film\u00a0The Beach<\/em> starring Leonardo\u00a0DiCaprio.<\/p>\n

Now, this marine park\u2019s white-sand beaches, hidden waterfalls, secluded lagoons, limestone cliffs, surrounding jungle and plethora of both active and inactive pursuits are the stuff of fantasy holidays. It\u2019s the perfect place for hiking,\u00a0snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, wildlife-spotting, or simply sunbathing.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Son Doong Cave, Vietnam<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Getting to Son Doong Cave<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0Quang Binh province<\/a>\u00a0of Vietnam takes a bit of dedication, but if a six-hour walk through 10km of forest doesn\u2019t scare you, you\u2019re in for a real treat. Translating to \u2018mountain river cave\u2019, Son Doong took shape two to five million years ago as a result of river water eating away at the limestone under the mountain. The massive cave is the world\u2019s largest, measuring more than 200m wide, 150m tall and roughly nine kilometres long, and was only recently discovered \u2013\u00a0first by a local in 1991 and more recently by British cavers in 2009.<\/p>\n

Sedona, the US<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A haven for artists and a dream come true for outdoorsy types or anyone just looking to relax,\u00a0Sedona<\/a>\u00a0is another beautiful destination that will have you feeling like you\u2019ve landed on another planet. With its massive and many-hued red-sandstone monoliths, cliffs and mesas that change dramatically with the sunrise and sunset, this\u00a0Arizona<\/a>\u00a0town is sure to leave you awestruck.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for active pursuits and adventure, you\u2019ll love the area\u2019s hiking, cycling and mountain-biking trails, horse-riding treks, hot-air-balloon rides, and more. Those in the mood for something slightly less energetic might like to browse the more than 40 art galleries, or book in a rejuvenating treatment at one of the dozens of local spas. Plus, Sedona is only a two-hour drive (177km) to one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World: the Grand Canyon.<\/p>\n

ISKCON Temple, India<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Just outside\u00a0Bengaluru<\/a>\u00a0city centre on Hare Krishna Hill sits one of the biggest \u2013 not to mention most architecturally stunning \u2013\u00a0ISKCON<\/a>\u00a0(International Society for Krishna Consciousness)\u00a0temples in the world. The grounds comprise roughly three pristine hectares, the massive main temple, and a host of smaller temples honouring many gods. The elaborate carvings and splendid painted ceilings inside the impressive glass-and-stone main temple will knock your socks off.<\/p>\n

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, Thailand<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A true national treasure,\u00a0Chiang Mai<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Doi Suthep-Pui National Park<\/a> is home to rich forests, majestic mountains, cascading waterfalls, hidden caves, abundant wildlife and the stunning\u00a0Wat Phra That Doi Suthep\u00a0temple. This historic Buddhist monastery sits just outside the city centre atop the summit of Doi Suthep, the mountain from which the park takes its name. Tourists can visit the traditional Thai-style temple when the royal family\u2019s not there \u2013 don\u2019t miss the rose garden and the white elephant shrine \u2013 before exploring the massive park, which has many bushwalking and biking tracks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Angkor Thom, Cambodia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Angkor<\/p>\n

Many have heard of Angkor Wat, the famous and World Heritage-listed temple complex in Cambodia\u2019s\u00a0Siem Reap<\/a>, but what about its also-impressive neighbour Angkor Thom?\u00a0Translating as \u2018the great city\u2019, Angkor Thom was the Khmer Empire\u2019s final capital city and has a history that goes as far back as the 1100s. This vast complex boasts a royal palace, many temples, stunning gates, a defensive moat, a massive fortified wall, and more. The centrepiece, the magnificent\u00a0Bayon\u00a0temple<\/a>, features a whopping 54 towers. The 2001 movie\u00a0Lara Croft: Tomb Raider<\/em> was in part filmed here.<\/p>\n

Cu Chi Tunnels, Vietnam<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Perhaps not beautiful in the traditional sense,\u00a0Ho Chi Minh City<\/a>\u2019s historic Cu Chi Tunnels are significant and moving nonetheless. The tunnels, which date back to the 1940s but really took shape during the Vietnam War, sheltered Viet Cong military and included living space, kitchens, weapons arsenals, hospitals, schoolrooms and more. During the war, more than 45,000 people died defending these remarkable warrens, which span several levels and cover more than 200km. Today, tourists have access to two sections of the tunnels. If you\u2019re feeling brave, you can even try navigating a section of the tunnels on your own \u2013 in the dark.<\/p>\n
