Beautiful but bare bones and rustic resort in Koh Lipe. Wonderful staff and dining options. No Air Conditioning or hot showers made it challenging though. The beach area is also crowded and very loud because of long tail boat traffic.

We liked the dining and communal area which always had a refreshing breeze. The staff were super-attentive and the menu for food and drink was really good value. The view over the ocean with its blue and jade colours and traditional sailing boats is to die for and the memory will carry me through the cold European winter. Our cabin was set back from the sea which was a shame and the fan was really needed. Remember to take insect repellent with you, as the mosquitoes were ready to sting.

it’s a lovely property, with a very relaxed feel - Nice food options, spa and water activities all available on site. The Only real challenge is the mosiquitos at late afternoon/early evening - but there are plenty of spray (just didn’t work for me).

Rustic it certainly is. Prime location on sunrise beach, and close walking distance to everything. We had a beach breezy which was worth it. If you're ok with no pool and no AC then this is exactly as you'd expect as a castaway

Overpriced, mosquito infested, but good bar
It’s hard to get away from the feeling that Castaway are selling $10 huts for $100. No AC, lots, and I mean LOTS of mosquitoes, nets with holes in them, ineffective plug in mosquito killer… No fridge (eco, remember?) but still charge for ice… The food was excellent, service reasonable, drinks, especially happy hour, reasonable price. The view was awesome, but the 4am long tails loud. Plenty of other hotels on the beach, next time I’ll pick one with AC.

Very unique and enjoyable experience at castaway. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bungalow was cozy and had everything you need. If you need AC or hot water this would not be the place for you, however we didn’t mind. Restaurant food and coffee were also great!

Castaway resort is located in one of the best beaches of Koh Lipe. In terms of amenities, you can have great food great cocktails dreamy massages and amazing yoga classes just in the resort, which is amazing if you are into relaxing battery recharging holidays. The bungalow we had was dreamy environmentally friendly and in harmony with the surroundings including the hammocks that we had. Only downsides were that because we were one of the first bungalows which was located few feet away from the bar/restaurant area -which was good whenever we were not sleeping. we had a lot of noise at night if we went to bed before the shutdown of the bar and in the morning due to all the motorbikes entering to pick up or leave customers. Also not much of a seclusion. In addition, since this is one of the pricey resorts we would expect better condition of the towels, as they are overused, quite old and rough. I saw that a lot of people mentioned it but i believe its something that needs to be reviewed asap. Apart from that everyone was quite polite and helpful and provided us with a great experience.

Me and my family loved the place but it's important to understand that they are eco-friendly and there is no hot water and no A/C. If you're fine with that, you will love it too. The staff were wonderful, views amazing, additional services (yoga, massage) great.

Property was very relaxing and value for the money. Management was less than open and respondent to accident that occurred on property. the UK based owner was more helpful when the guest had to approach him because management did not.. Management reports they have fixed the problem.

Definitely not a place for a solo traveler. Mostly couples here so it’s hard to meet people. Their restaurant/resort is an awesome hangout spot. The huts are..... okay. It doesn’t cool down too much, and you should bring bug spray!

Lovely and Relaxing
My wife and I spent 7 nights in a Big Beach Front Breezy bungalow and absolutely loved it. Perfect location and superb view. The bungalows are fairly basic so if you are looking for luxury, look elswhere.The lack of hot water for showers was not a problem for us as the weather was hot and a cool shower was quite refreshing. The perfect relaxation spot really. Reception/Restaurant/Bar/ Lounge area is lovely with a very chilled out feeling. The staff were fantastic, very helpful and always smiling, also some European staff on reception to help with queries.The facilities throughout the resort are well looked after. My only negative comment is regarding the mosquito/insect problem. Although the beds have nets, we did leave with quite a few bites, but this is not just a Castaway problem, but the island overall. Overall we had a wonderful holiday at the Castaway and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.Looking forward to visiting Koh Lipe and The Castaway again!

Die Hütten sind sehr spartanisch eingerichtet, was auch eine Art Markenzeichen von Castaway ist. Es gibt statt einer Klimaanlage nur Ventilatoren und die Dusche und Toilette sind mitten im Raum (ohne Abtrennung). Dennoch ist es ein sehr schönes Resort mit einem Traumstrand. Das Essen und Trinken waren hervorragend! Man kann direkt am Hotel Tauch-Trips buchen und Kayaks oder Standup-Padels mieten. In 5 Gehminuten ist man in der Einkaufsstraße. Wir hatten zwar einen tollen Aufenthalt, dennoch finden wir das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis für die doch einfachen Hütten nicht angemessen.

I new that the amenities were slim to none. Like no hot water and no AC but I thought the wi-fi would’ve been better. It only works right at the restaurant/bar But if your goning to Koh Lipe you should just turn you phone off and enjoy getting away from it all. And I thought it would be a quiet place where you can get plenty of rest. But the the bungalow I stayed in was right next to another resort bar that played the same music beat over and over all night. And as soon as the music stops the long tail fishing boats start up early morning. And that’s another disappointing thing to the whole beach is completely filled with hundreds of boats coming in and out all day and night. I think sunset beach was much better. Don’t get me wrong the island was amazing but I’d look for a more remote place. And just taxi in to town. For $50 baht = $1.50 dollars

What I like is that its basic living. The chalets were well designed and somewhat well thought off. Although there were mosquitoes on the island, the net over our bed worked effectively. We slept well. We didn't need A/C, as the fan and the wind from the ocean was sufficient enough to cool us down. The resort also provide us with new water bottles everyday. I would have assumed they would reduce the usage of plastic bottles in that resort but they do have refillable water cooler. So bring your own non plastic bottles of purchase the Hero water bottle for 250Baht and you can refill water for free everywhere on the island. Also, there was no water on one of the nights we stayed there. I wanted to wash my face late one evening but there was no water. But the problem was resolved the next day. Oh ... what amazes me is how they manage their water waste from the bathroom. Is that a multi layer filtration going on? My daughter was amused and I had to keep telling her to stay away from it before she gets a splash LOL. Thanks tho Castaway. We had an awesome time.

We just would like to explain that each of the bungalows are equipped with septic tank and proper filtration system, we do not let waste water into the ground without filtration. The leak that you saw is from the shower - this (grey) water is not particularly dirty and definitely not bad for environment. We do fix these regularly though.

Avoid it at all costs!
There are so many mosquitoes and sandflies, which I learned I am allergic to during my stay at Castaway. Although it is evident that this is a big problem, as other guests have complained in their reviews, Castaway hasn't taken any measures. There is no screen, and our mosquito net had a lot of holes. Although we had to keep the doors and the windows closed, every day, we got beaten more and more. My entire body became like the arm in the picture. Sandfly bites are seriously itchy and painful. It was a disastrous Christmas vacation for me, and I was quite relieved to leave Castaway.

Thank you for your feedback. We again apologize for the mosquito bites your received while staying at the resort. All of our bungalows are equipped with screens, mosquito nets, plug in mosquito repellants and fans. Reception staff are instructed to replace any mosquito nets with holes and we can also provide extra fans at guest’s request. We also provide mosquito repellent free of charge at reception. Mosquitoes are indeed a big problem in the tropics and on the island. We are fighting to reduce the population constantly. However, we do not use fogging or other pesticides that are available on the market, but as we believe , are more dangerous for human’s health as well as for the environment.

The vibe is great! One of the cool places to hang out on Lipe. It is not however a grand value. Rooms are cute but rustic spartan affairs. No hot water. Not that you really need it. Happy hour is great. Beach is minimal. Food is ok. Service is medium. The staff is nice the waiters slightly lost. Great deck to watch sunrise and sunset. Some Western staff to help when your Thai leaves you wanting.

Everything was really good and the massage was the best I have ever had! Very relaxing, nice and calm environment. The downside was the comfort of the bed. It was so uncomfortable that we couldn’t get any sleep at all. The pillows were also the same. So unfortunately even though everything else was pretty awesome, the 2 nights at the resort was enough for us.

A little slice of paradise on Earth! My partner and I spent 5 nights in a Big Sea View Breezy bungalow and absolutely loved it!! Perfect location, superb view, super comfy bed and preferred having fans in the room to AC. The lack of hot water for showers was also not a problem as the weather was so hot it was actually refreshing. Loved the little more luxurious details such as branded toiletries (really good hair conditioner!). We'd often be happy to just spend time on the patio on our super comfy hammocks. The perfect relaxation spot that made us feel more in touch with nature. Fresh bottled water was also provided every day, which was nice. Bungalows cleaned to a really high standard. Restaurant area is great, however, we only had drinks there as we always ate out. The facilities throughout the resort are really well looked after. Overall, a wonderful stay and won't hesitate to recommend. We can't wait to book our next stay at Castaway!

Very nice place to stay along sunrise beach, perfect location. Few ways to reach walking street , very convenient. Bunglows have no aircon but i like it. I got the garden bunglow. Was given mosquito repellent to be plugged into the socket ( looks like airfreshner) . Slept well.did not have mosquitos coming into the bedroom area . But for the toilet at the ground level, some mosquitos came in. Do a quick shower to avoid them. Yoga at 7 am, 9 am and 4 pm except sundays. Diving centre on site. Prebook the day before. Transfers offered by castaway”s agent was efficient. Good and clear information from castaway when i booked my transfers. Room did not come with breakfast but i was fine to pay my way for each meal. Had the greencurry rice for breakfast.delicious! Right amount of spiciness! But not the cheapest at thb175

The mosquitoes drove us mad. Make sure you book behind the restaurant and not in the section beside the office on the other side of the fence. We had to move. Very , very basic. No comforts but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom is what you would expect in a bungalow. The landing on the veranda very dangerous . Small area with a step down . Night time its not visable . No pool .. Lounge cushions on the beach a big plus. Great Island. Relaxing and fun.
