About Narita International Airport

Tokyo Narita International Airport is the principal international gateway for Japan and welcomes upwards of 30 million passengers every year. It is a hub facility for Japanese airlines and has flight arrivals from locations as far apart as Los Angeles, London, Bangkok, Singapore and Sydney. Narita Airport is around 60kms from central Tokyo and attractions like Ginza and the Imperial Palace.

Don’t Miss

Narita International Airport is between the towns of Narita and Shibayama. In central Narita, Shinsho Temple is more than 1,000 years old and a lovely example of a Japanese temple. Chiba Prefectural Boso-no Museum is another Narita highlight featuring old samurai homes and farmhouses with handicrafts and interactive exhibits.

Shibayama’s culture icons are haniwa death objects and the main road through town is packed with statues of these. Shibayama Kofun and Haniwa Museum showcases ancient history with articles up to 1,800 years old. The annual Haniwa Festival is held in November and is a major draw for culture fans.

No visit to Japan is complete without experiencing a bath at an onsen spa. People staying around Narita International Airport are provided with easy access to an onsen as Yamato no Yu is close by. The spa is fed by natural hot water and a bath in one of its pools is said to help with problems such as muscle pain and cut or burnt skin.

Restaurants and Bars

Dining at Narita International Airport is heaven. It has a huge choice of eateries spread across its terminals. Travellers can choose from menus with the likes of sushi, ramen noodles, pork cutlets, Thai food and spaghetti. There are a few bars serving beer, wine and sake. In Narita, near Shinsho Temple, there is a nice selection of restaurants that includes a Brazilian one. The onsite restaurant at Yamato no Yu Spa serves up tasty dishes including udon noodles, tempura and ten-fu-luo squid.

Shopping

Narita International Airport is loaded up with shops. Passengers could do all their souvenir shopping here as the shops stock products such as rice crackers, sweets, rock salt, dolls and handicrafts from Chiba. Cartier, Hermes and Burberry are among brand name shops with outlets in the terminals. The duty-free shops sell all the famous cigarette and alcohol makes. Narita Market (Narita-ichiba) offers shopping with a difference. Its 200 stalls sell seafood, fruit and vegetables, along with a tuna auction that is an unmissable sight.
