Comfort, cleanliness, service, presenentation +quality of food were spot on as to be expected in a 5 star hotel+5 star prices paid.myself+my girlfriend had a lovely +relaxing time in the hotel+the spa area, however, the "discretionary" charges we were expected to pay, even without gaining our consent, were very concerning. On each occasion,i requested they to be taken off with my reason been that i felt we had allready paid more than enough to cover hotel costs and staff salaries+bonuses etc +although my requests were granted, other travellers need to be aware it is not compulsory to pay these additional charges?however, what REALLY CONCERNED ME,is that despite the breakfast staff settling my final payment and informing me i didn't need to check out +pay anything else at reception,i later discovered an additional £18.83 had been taken from my credit card without my consent, and without even informing me they were taking it+what it was for?surely this is illegal??on telephoning the hotel later, the receptionist informed me it was a "discretionary" accomodation charge of £17.83 and a charitable donation of £1?i informed him that i regularly donate to various charities, but insist they refund this as it was again taken without my consent +as neither additional charge was advised or advertised when i made the booking and paid in full, surely this constitutes theft??when i checked into the hotel, the receptionist confirmed the room was paid in full+can confirm im still awaiting for a refund?
