The Ledang District was renamed the Tangkak District and is found within the northern section Muar. The area has many natural attractions nearby such as the famous Mount Ophir. Urban development also ensures that the towns within this district are filled with shops and restaurants, as well as many historical and architectural landmarks. Let’s take a closer look at the highlights of the Ledang District.
There are many townships within this region. The localities supply a great mix of outdoor fun and comfortable living. The sprawling Gunung Ledang National Park is found nearby which offers travellers a unique look at the untouched rainforest. From temples to stretches of tranquil fields, the Ledang, or Tangkak, District has lots to see and do.
Homestays are about the best option for visitors to Ledang. Prices are typically cheaper than a three-star hotel and the quality of accommodation is outstanding. There is also a small selection of two to three star hotels within the town of Tangkak itself.
The campsites of Gunung Ledang National Park are excellent. They are free from pests and all are within just a short distance of the river bank. Maintenance on the grounds is great and the peaceful setting is hard to beat. Bring your own food and something to cook on and prepare for an afternoon to remember.
Visitors to the area can’t miss out on the fantastic photo opportunities at the two black Kuan Yin temples found at the nearby town of Bukit Gambir. Housing a massive 18-foot statue of Kuan Yin, this is a truly magnificent sight which you will forever remember.
The summit of Mount Ophir is open to avid hikers of all fitness levels. The mountain is known to have trails which are not too taxing, leading up the summit. Mount Ophir reaches a height of 1286 metres, or 4219 feet. The view from the top is amazing and well-worth the little effort which it takes in comparison.
The Sagil Waterfall within the Gunung Ledang National Park is a great place to unwind. The calm waters are great for swimming while the nearby campsites are the perfect place for a picnic. Ask the locals about the many paths leading to the waterfall to uncover some of the most unspoilt camp spots in the entire park.
Don’t visit the Ledang District without first trying the spicy sour fish dish, Asam pedas. The unique flavour is not to be missed. Mee bandung is another local delicacy which serves you a chilli and shrimp noodle soup like you have never tasted before.
Roti canai is a Malay flatbread which is at times known as roti prana. Served with a range of curries, this is a meal which is prepared to perfection in this area. Both savoury and dessert flavours are offered at the many outlets selling this traditional dish.
