A very mixed review! I have now stayed here on five different occasions however it has noticeably in disrepair and badly maintained after Covid. My stay this time was not great but on my previous stays 2006-2018 it was great therefore I will hope this is purely down to the effects of covid and will improve in the near future.

Short stay in Nexus Karambunai
Is a bit run down for the garden villa. Not suitable for elderly as buggy service drop off point is lobby, whereby restaurant is at lower floor and do not have lift service. Chinese restaurant service is not so good and it took an hour waiting time to serve food. Food choices limited for dinner and some are buffet which is not suitable for elderly and young kids.

A mediocre stay
The hotel staff were friendly enough but the hotel was a bit old and requires a bit of maintenance work. The food was quite disappointing and a lot of the things we wanted on the menu were out of stock. The kids activities were disorganised, whereby everything started late and only lasted 30mins when it was an hour activity. None of the water sport activities were available to do even though it was advertised everywhere. This hotel has so much potential but requires a lot of work to make it at a higher standard

I really liked the surrounding nature of the resort. Staffs were friendly as well. However, room (especially bathroom) and some of the resort facilities were outdated and unclean. Bathroom needs refurbishment work and overall cleanness needs to be improved.

Thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday here, we had two adjoining rooms that had beautiful views and were close to all amenities. Staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and their friendliness was outstanding. The restaurants were also outstanding and having live entertainment each evening was lovely. We would also recommend the Borneo Spa for a special treat and pamper. We would definitely love to return here one day, thank you.

Comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location next to the sea. Private beach, very clean. Wide choice of good quality food from at least five restaurants with different cuisines. Not too busy, possibly low season. Most other guests were families or couples, majority Chinese with a few people from other areas. A little isolated and quite far from the city (Kota Kinabalu), about 45 minutes journey by shuttle bus or taxi.

The staff are all courteous and offer excellent service especially in the F&B outlets. I visited this property in 2003 and it is the charm of the hotel that made me go back there again this time. Food at outlets is still good and you get quality for what you pay.

Nice view, nice landscape. However, it seems they are short of staff. No staff attended to us when we reach, only 1 staff at reception counter, no warm welcome by the staff like other resorts. Also, food served is not up to the quality.

first night the room is shabby and conditions are very bad. the following nights we change to another room but it is too far away to the swimming pool area but hotel staff can drive us. we found it inconvenient so changing room again. Besides, many flies in outdoor restaurant.

The only thing wrong with staying here was there was nothing close by to do. Couldn’t walk the streets or go to restaurants close by. 45 minute drive into town. Otherwise Very relaxing

We had the nexus club room, these rooms are dark. As in, not enough lighting even when everything is wacked up high, so eating dinner with room.service was a bit difficult as it's so dark.

Our room was on the top floor -5th in the Ocean Wing and the view of the gardens, beach, ocean were amazing. We saw some great sunsets apart from it being cloudy. On the other side, i.e. when you come out of the room the views of the nearby forests and hills were superb. I had emailed beforehand about our dietary requirements and got quick responses back confirming, however upon check in she didn't appear to know but would let the chefs know. At breakfast we had to explain our requirements again and they attempted to cater for us but only partly. It was a little disappointing as we'd told them well in advance but they did try their best at that point. The rooms were clean, spacious and very comfortable. Had all the amenities e.g. toiletries, slippers etc. The toilets around the bar/beach lacked cleaniness and 2 cubicles were used to store cleaning materials! They need to be maintained better. There was a wedding one night and the guests almost took over the pool area. Private events should be cordoned off so as not to disturb other paying guests.

Unfortunately very crowded and loud breakfast place; qua tity of breakfast ok but quality of 2-3 * hotel. If you have big groups, you better seperate them from individual guests.. Too far away from city to enjoy other food. Golf is good and good value.

Awesome resort for couple or family
I had one of the best trip experience at this resort thanks to all the staff who genuinely dedicated to provide superb service. Special thanks to all the Penyu restaurant staff especially the manager lady who showed true customer service for us. The facility was well kept everywhere and all the food in every restaurant was excellent. If you're looking for a gataway at KK and prefers stay off busy downtown to enjoy quiet and beautiful ocean and sand I strongly recommend this place and you won't regret. Thank you for making my trip memorable. Tremak gasi !

Like: spacious rooms, clean. Good large variety of food for breakfast buffet. Dislike: not hotel’s fault but couldn’t swim in sea because it’s jellyfish season from March to June. Still a lot of plastic by beach/sea. Too far from town. A free shuttle to town would have been nice. So feel trapped by the resort as nothing around there.

We've booked this place a few times now, and it seems each stay is getting worse. This time our room was changed to a older section of the resort. We were close to what seemed like the sewage system, which didn't make it for nice view or smell. We had a car, and we had pulled over on the side of the road to take pictures of birds that we saw. A security guard came and shooed us away, being quite forceful and rude in not letting us stay to take pictures. Wasn't a very nice welcome, and left a negative taste in our mouth. Our bathtub also wasn't working very well, combined with our small refrigerator. We asked to get it fixed, but nothing happened. Will think twice before booking this again. Client hospitality can definitely be improved, as well as customer service. Despite all of this, the beach itself is nice and secluded.

3 hotels I stayed in KK all not so good experience. NEXUS and one other had on going renovation. It will be nice to inform us before we book so we can be prepared or opt for another hotel.

The resort is set on lovely grounds with lots of greenery. Some of the hotel is quite dated but they are currently undergoing renovations, which is good, but make sure you know this before choosing your room as there is alot of noise if your room is located near where they are working (and the renovations take place 7 days a week). We weren't advised of the renovations prior to our arrival and it did affect our enjoyment for teh first day but they were accommodating in moving us to an alternative wing after the first night. The staff were all very friendly and happy to help and there are several restaurants to choose from but don't have any huge expectations for food - it was fine but not amazing. The mini mart onsite has a good variety of basic essentials and is reasonably priced which is a bonus given there is nothing else within walking distance. A good place to stay for a couple of days relaxing in the sun.

Far from the city - like it!
Nice resort with beautiful garden and beach. It will be perfect choice if you want to far from city. The restaurants are overall fair price and good quality.
