Wake up to a magnificent view of Mt Kinabalu just infront of our unit. They could improve on the water system. The unit we stayed has no hot water and the pressure was very low. I was freezing cold after a cold shower. Other than that we loved the place and enjoyed our stay.

Place was amazing, rooms were kept clean. Food menu perhaps need improvement. Wifi connection provided was not so good coverage. Some Telco do not have coverage once enter the room.

There were many ants.The condition is like an old kampung house. The DVD player wasnt working and had to get someone to exchange with another DVD player next door. Cats and dogs around the premise, caterwauling until we fed them.The worse part was the presence of something in the room with bunk beds. My son was able to see it and my hubby was disturbed by it.

Terrible for this price
It is cheaper to book on the spot / call the hotel for advance booking then to book online. The room doesn't support weak WIFI...and there was no TV. Toilet door was broken when we got in. Breakfast was very bad, don't put too much hope on it

Don't book the cheapest room
We booked the cheapest room at the lodge and it was a very small room with concrete floors, a low ceiling, gaps in the walls and no mosquito net. I would suggest paying more for a better room. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was fairly good but nothing to write home about.

Superb location. Near to Kinabalu Park Enterance. Breathtaking view. Very cold at night. One thing that remains a problem and will always be a problem for all guest, the thin wall. If you talk loud, it can be heard by other guess at other room.

I was given the impression, based on the price I have paid on this place (for my room), there would be no issues at all. Unfortunately, in a terrible way, this place has done worse. I have been travelling for a few years. I have been staying in several different hotels and accommodations like Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, KL, Perak and Pahang. All of them have their own goods and bads but none of them have ever disappointed me except this Mile 36 Lodge. I don't know or I am not sure, are this place really wanted to be in the business of leisure or accommodation? Are those guys in this place really wanted to serve their guest with their inadequate amenities? No iron for my shirt? Not enough hot water? Not enough parking? Wifi, internet? Too slow even my grandma can run faster than their internet. Congratulation Mile 36 Lodge, you have won, in the first place, in my own categories, The Worst Expedia Experience of 2019. I am even sorry for Expedia themselves for having this place in their system. You should get rid of this place ASAP from your booking system. Summary? Cleanliness: 3/5 Amenities: 1/5 Internet: 1/5 Everything that's should make your expensive hotel to be worthy: 1/5 Worse, risk of damaging your travel mood: 7/5

Very thin walls/ceiling. I heard the family above me way more than I wanted to. The breakfast selection was meager, but the coffee was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful in getting me a minibus to KK.

Room is clean but do not select the ground floor room, otherwise you might can't get a sleep if have customer on upstair. the breakfast is bad, no meat in it and depend on the mood of the chef that you'll get good or bad service

I had Chin Bungalow during my stay that could accomodate 9 people and 1 kid. From our room we can see the view of Mount Kinabalu and the Bungalow has everything, except towel.

Nice environment for family holidays
The final nite I couldnt sleep due to group of youth having bbq infront of my room and making noice till late nite. Please also indicate the food provided is halal or otherwise. I also lost a WD watch but was called otw back saying that the watch was found under my bed (??)..Anyway tks for being honest. Overall my family and I found the 36 lodge was very nice and exclusive and we will definately come back.

A budget stay with decent breakfast
What you see in the pics is what you gonna get. Dont expect too much on the budget room. The rooms are absolutely no sound proof so you can absolutely hear everything from upstairs esp when theres kids playing, running & jumping around. For the water heater, get shower early before other rooms finished the water & itll take some time for the water heater to boil some more. The breakfast is pretty decent, the noodles are usually good, but the fried rice kinda dry. But again, its pretty worth the price since its absolutely hard to find a much cheaper homestay around tht area with free breakfast

The family unit was very clean and cool. It would have been better if there is insect screen to allow for better ventilation because there was no fan nor Aircond in the unit. No tv too. WiFi was good until more guests moved in, it was do slow. Food was bad.

The picture of the room is misleading
I was expecting a room like what they showed in the pictures but instead I was given a room which is quite slanted, dark, and has cockroaches. To be fair, it is situated near a forest (hence the cockroaches maybe) but they could just be more honest with the condition of their room.

Bad Experience
Came with my family, got the room for 4 and we couldn't wait to get out of our room. The place is aged, just repainted without any upgrade on basic facilities (didn't even have a fan or any ventilation, including the toilet so imagine the smell after you have used it). Bathroom and sink look like they have been there since the 60's. Also, there was a gigantic spider under the eaves right outside of our room. Staff gave us a kettle that has the words "Don't give to guest, won't stop after boiling" written on it, which we found out to be true. The room door has no latch as well. Worst of all, I found a COOKED fly in my breakfast after I was almost done! Only the beds are satisfactory. Avoid if possible, there are better options out there I am sure.

A cozy little lodge in the mountains
Mile 36 Lodge is about a 20min walk from Kinabalu Park. Walking around here is a good way to get acclimated to the higher elevation, especially if you plan to do more hikes in Kinabalu Park or even climb Mt. Kinabalu. Mile 36’s location is excellent, in a beautiful & peaceful setting, where you can get a view of Mt. Kinabalu (when not covered in clouds) from its open garden & grounds. For 3 nights, I stayed in a Budget Twin Room, which was actually a separate cabin/hut on its own & several steps away from the other lodges. It has its own bathroom that is attached to the bedroom…“attached” meaning that I still had to go outside to get to it. It’s not a problem as it’s still covered & just next door, but it’s not as convenient or comfortable when you still have to go outside in the middle of the night when it’s cold or raining and there are bugs or insects flying nearby, which are attracted to the lights :-). There is a hot water shower, but the water isn’t really hot or warm, so be prepared esp. if you plan to shower at night after a long day of hiking in Kinabalu Park. So you definitely get a mountain feel when you stay here, as if you’re secluded, so this is a good place to stay & a good experience overall. At night, all you hear are the insects or the heavy rain. They have an onsite restaurant that is open for breakfast & dinner only. Breakfast is included in the room rate. For lunch, you can walk about 10min to a nearby lodge/restaurant or take a 10min taxi to Kundasang.

Just for the night
I have read reviews on this place before I made my reservation. I decided to try it out. I had a family suite which included 2 rooms and a living area. Yes, it is spacious enough and the view is okay. My mum likes the garden view. However, the rooms are just too close to each other that we can clearly hear what others were talking about from where we stayed. Or may be because our rooms are just above the general dining area? I would recommend getting the bungalow if you're coming with your family. The first thing I entered the room is to check on the washrooms. I was met by an unconscious cockroach. It is still acceptable, I guess. Then the heater, we're lucky that it was working well. It just needed some time to heat up. When I thought I can finally settle down and rest, water dripped from the ceiling. It rained quite heavily on that day. Fortunately, the maintenance team was very helpful and efficient. They came to fix it after I informed the receptionist. By the way, there are games that you can borrow for free at the reception hut. With the package, we're provided with breakfast. It was okay, just that may be they can try to keep the food warm and add more varieties to the selection of food. Overall, the staff are friendly and helpful. But they really need to buck up to provide better service,go into details. And the place really need some touch up to make it shines.
