Aquarium of the Pacific

Aquarium of the Pacific showing interior views and marine life
Immerse yourself in the fascinating undersea world at this magnificent aquarium, home to sharks, eels and the giant Pacific octopus.

A visit to the Los Angeles’ Aquarium of the Pacific will be remembered long after your holiday is over. This attraction provides a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in a marine world, and get impossibly close to such sea life as sharks, eels and the giant Pacific octopus. Not only does the Aquarium of the Pacific offer access to some of the ocean’s most distinctive and beautiful creatures, but it’s also a mine of useful information about them. The aquarium is primarily dedicated to ocean life from the Pacific, the largest of the world’s oceanic expanses. The Aquarium of the Pacific is so vast in scale that it is possible to fit three football fields within its huge three-storey interior. The exhibition space contained within the building authentically recreates real conditions in three major areas of the Pacific Ocean, namely the mild seas of Southern California and Baja, the icy depths of the Northern Pacific and the tropical regions of the Pacific. Each of these regions is home to vastly differing sea life. The Aquarium of the pacific is home to an impressive 11,000 animals, spread across nearly 500 different species. There is so much to see and do within the confines of the aquarium that you will find it difficult to fit it all in within a single day. The aquarium staff are on hand to ensure that the animals are accessible to the public with all sorts of different everyday activities. Feeding time freely open to visitors, along with the opportunity to actually touch some of the animals in various touching pools. If you are curious to delve further into the ocean’s murky depths, a behind the scenes tour offers an insight into the way that the aquarium is run, enabling access to non-public areas so that you can learn how such processes as water filtration and animal care are achieved. This tour also offers the opportunity to wander above the largest exhibit in the development, the Tropical Reef.Back on dry land, there’s also a huge aviary full of colourful birds contained within the complex. This 300-square-metre outdoor aviary gives visitors the chance to see these beautiful creatures at close quarters. You are even allowed to feed them their favourite food. The aquarium is located 40 kilometres south of downtown Los Angeles, and is open every day apart from Christmas Day and one week during April. Paid parking is available.
