This looks like the typical older hiway motel. But when I opened the door to the room I was stunned. This has been refurbished right. Bright attractive furnishings excellent new air type mattress with everything updated. Very quiet and dark room. A real deal.

This hotel was perfect for a night passing through Raton. The room layout was nice, and the amenities were clean and in good repair. The staff was very attentive every time we spoke with them, and they greeted us warmly each time we passed through the lobby.
Internet over the free WiFi was excellent. I'm an IT guy and really appreciate a hotel where the Internet connection doesn't completely suck.
I was also left with the impression the staff or management is very safety and security conscious. Fire extinguishers were in great condition (including little hammers to break the glass) and evacuation plans were prominently posted.
This was an excellent room for the price and I will gladly stay there again.

The lady who checked us in was great. When my daughters and I went to use the pool baseball players checked into the hotel and some of them went to the pool. We left the pool area shortly after they arrived. She checked with me to make sure the boys didn't run us out. They were respectful boys, we were just done swimming but I was impressed that she check on us.
I chose this hotel because of it's good reviews and because of it's proximity to where I was hunting for the elusive Northeastern New Mexican turkey. It's an older hotel, but kept clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and informative. Try the hot steam bath in your room after a cold day in the woods!

El Kapp is a small independently owned motel. The rooms are not in good shape, they're old and in need of a remodel. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. The owner/operator was nice and personable. Wireless could use some extenders, we had to sit outside the room to use it. Most of the complaints I have are from the age of the room and furniture.
Because of its age the room had a lack of electrical plugs, both the fridge and microwave were unplugged causing a bad smell if you opened the fridge. Their plugs may have reached the electrical behind the TV, but we didn't bother to try. The floor in areas was weak and I could feel it bend under my weight. The AC was a window unit in the back and may have been too small for the room, the room was very large, we turned it on full and it worked well enough for us to sleep, but it never hgot as cool as I like in the room. Bathroom as well was old, in good working order, but I think everything was from the 70s.
Again, rooms are large, huge compared to the hotel we spent the previous two days in, and the beds were comfortable and large, not too soft or hard, plus my feet didn't hang over the edge. Four chairs in the room, one needed some glue, desk and a table. TV armoire held an older tube television.
I don't think I'd stay here for an extended stay, I might if I were passing through on my way back home, depends on the price. Doubt I'd get better for the same price.
