We have stayed at The Shalimar Hotel, every year for last at least 30 years now, as it was good for all the amenities and staff were very friendly and looked after us very well! This time, there were too many issues, which I have submitted to the hotel on their feedback firm and I was very verbal too with complaints. Not staying on our return to Mumbai, which we had booked with Expedia, and cancelled it today.

Dear Ms. Gita At the outset our most sincere apologies that you did not enjoy your last stay with us. The reason for the delay in responding to your review is that we have been continuously trying to get in touch with you but to no avail.We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Most humbly we request you to give us another opportunity. Also considering you have stayed with us over 3 decades, please we request you to look at this as a one off experience. However, we just would like to respond to the complaints you had raised. Whilst we are not absolving our responsibility, we just felt it was imperative that we explain our issues. You had raised the issue about the booking. The booking had come through Expedia, which was honoured. You had informed us that you had sent us an e-mail for the booking,to which we had clarified that we had not received any e-mail from your end. When the call was made for the booking, we had indicated that a night's advance would be needed, hence, it might be advisable to make the booking online. We genuinely regret the inconvenience, hence, we request you to treat this as a one off incident please. You had complained about the towels, we apologise for the same. However, we would like to clarify that once the towels come from the laundry they are unfolded, checked and refolded. It is possible that there was an oversight, we do apologise for the same. Regarding the slippers, they are available but on request. Regarding the mini bar, yes there has been a management decision post Covid to keep the minibar empty. In fact this is becoming a global status that a lot of hotels are now keeping the minibars empty. Post Covid, staffing for hotels has become a major issue and hence, the management, as a policy have decided to keep minibars empty.We do apologise about the safe not working, but we have an engineering team available round the clock to attend to these issues. Regarding your issue about the tea at the restaurant, we serve tea in this manner which is a traditional way of serving tea and is quite common in hotels in Maharashtra, also popularly known as Cutting chai. We apologise for the delay in your room service order.We sincerely request you to please accept our most sincere apologies for the same. Please give us an opportunity to serve you again. We assure you that you will have no issue this time. Once again we humbly apologise for the same.Warm Regards, Management - The Shalimar Hotel.

This Is my 5th times that I’ve stayed at Shalimar Hotel, and I loved it. Staff is extra courteous and very helpful and friendly. Overall Excellent Services. While I’ll certainly return back to stay in future, I’ll definitely recommend to collogues and friends.

Mr Kirtan Ghoda was very helpful in coordinating my RT PCR test. Most centres were closed but he was able to organise it for me and was available over the phone even I had already checked out.

Beautiful old hotel that gets a lot wrong. I booked a non-smoking room, and they had none left. So room smelled. They changed my room which improved it a bit, but another room they showed me smell SO STRONG of perfume. Old hotel that needs a lot of maintenance. Beautiful old marble. 1/2 shower didn't work. Small corners of cleaning need to be done. Breakfast was very weak. Safe was not screwed to wall, and battery kept dying.

However, we assume you are the same guest who wrote in the guest comment card during your stay as the observations were identical. It is imperative that we clarify our stand on your observations. We apologize that you were not given a non-smoking room, however, this is always subject to availability. In fact when on the next day our Assistant Front Manager offered you a room change you denied the same. We appreciate that you found our property beautiful. Whilst you have praised the hotel, you have said it needs a lot of maintenance, these statements are conflicting. However, we would like to inform you that we follow a very strict preventive maintenance program. Our Housekeeping schedule is also extremely strict and effective and regular housekeeping practices followed worldwide are followed at our hotel. In fact, we have scores of positive reviews on the hotel across all platforms, especially considering we have been in operation for over 5 decades. We apologize that you found our breakfast weak, However, our menu choice is varied and at any given point we have 40-50 items on the buffet plus eggs to order as well as south Indian delicacies. In fact, when we compare your review to the guest comment form we assume you have filled, it is pertinent to note that you have written that enjoyed the dosa. This is, however, if you are the same guest. As mentioned earlier the review is anonymous. Our safes are located inside the wardrobes, just as you find in all international hotels, hence, they are not screwed to the wall. These are Elsafes, which is one of the leading brands and found in hotels worldwide. We do apologize for the battery issue. We do apologize for the inconvenience you faced. We would request you not to base our hotel on this experience. We would request you to accord us another opportunity to serve you. Thank you.

The hotel is well situated and the staff is friendly and helpful My room however was small as were the closet and the little window with a blind that didn't work The hotel advertises rooms that are probably nice but mine wasn't. The breakfast buffet was average maybe a little better on Indian foods On the whole my appreciation is quite benevolent

Nothing special about this place, average. Didnt get breakfast which is known for complmintary breaky. Got discount on nothing. Even the accomodation price fluctuated for different day. When i booked, it was one price per night. I will never stay there again.

Comfortable hotel with international feel
Comfortable stay. Hotel was what was expected although I would not describe it as "boutique". Good position at Kemps Corner and easy to get Uber or local cab. Rooms were comfortable and reasonable size. Staff were helpful. Hotel let down by breakfasts which were rudimentary and coffee on both days very weak. Fortunately the bakery on etc ground floor serves excellent coffee.and could have been in any city

Allowing for cultural differences is an issue. We loved the staff enthusiasm. We had to put up the "do not disturb" sign as we were having the door knocked on 6 times a day. The door card had to be adjusted everyday as you could not use the elevator without it. The quality of the apartment was okay the bar was limited and the tea and coffee was meagre. The inhouse restaurant was fantastic and the staff could not do enough for you.

VingCard is the leading electronic lock company worldwide,your feedback has been shared with them. We would request you to treat this as a one-off incident. It is possible that the key card might have been damaged, or there might have been some glitch.You have mentioned that in spite of putting the DND sign the staff did knock on the door several times. We would really like to investigate this issue through our CCTV, however, since you have put this review as Anonymous, we do not know your name, hence,it is practically impossible for us to go through so many weeks of CCTV footage. I would genuinely appreciate if you send us an e-mail about the same for us to investigate the same and revert.You have stated in your review that the quality of the apartment was okay. The hotel rooms have been designed by one of Mumbai's leading design agencies, we comply with all the standards of a 4 star hotel as laid out by the Department of Tourism,hence, it would be nice to hear what you didn't like about the guest rooms for us to enhance your experience on your next visit.You have mentioned that the bar was limited.District Lounge is a very popular local bar and we have more than 100 varieties of spirits, we are truly sorry if you could not find a beverage of your choice.You have remarked that tea and coffee are meager. I was very disappointed in the way the front staff organised my finial accommodations bill and services bill I received when checking out. There were amount take from my bank account that were not authorised, this is in appropriate practices. I will be take this matter further will all parts involved. Hotel was very well located for my needs which was to attend the nearby Dentzz Dental Clinic. Room was comfortable and the restaurant very good but a bit expensive. Staff very friendly and most very helpful. I felt safe as a solo female traveler.

Dear Guest, Outset please accept my most sincere apologies for the inconvenience you faced at the hotel. We are truly very sorry about this. We have made a detailed investigation of the same. While we do not wish to shy away from the issue, we thought it necessary to clarify the same. We have a strict program on boiler maintenance as well as temperature control. On that particular date, the maintenance in charge erred in the correct temperature, for which we are at fault. He did realize his mistake and immediately rectified the same. However, in issues like this, the boiler sometimes takes some time to attain the right temperature. We did not receive any other complaint regarding hot water at all, unfortunately, there was a complaint from your room. We are truly sorry about this. We also thank you for the positive comments. Please look at this as a one-off incident and give us an opportunity to serve you again. Thank you.

Comfortable hotel but process not user friendly
The room was very comfortable and food tasted good. However, the checkin and checkout process was the worse from what I have seen so far in other hotels. It took us almost 20-25 mins to check-in and around 15 -20 mins for checkout. We could have missed our onward flight. The staff are very polite but the front desk team, though polite, in my opinion are inexperienced. They were charging us more, when already pay at hotel was fixed for an amount including taxes. Moreover, the hotel policy dictates payment while check-in instead of check-out. The Hotel dosent qualify for a 4 star. A 3 star is fine.

Was a nice clean hotel, I found the staff on the front desk, not especially helpful, I was there for dental treatment and was wanting a quick tour, sightseeing trip. The guy went on to Google, I informed him that I was quiet capable of doing that, and walked away and ended up seeing only the dentist and nearby shops. The maitre d in the restaurant was especially helpful, especially finding me soft food to eat. The rest of the waiters need a bit of chivving up. The breakfast selection was mostly Indian food, but you could order any sort of eggs. I would have preferred more fruit, some mangos and bananas would be good. The District bar was my favourite, I usually went down early evening and had a few drinks, the local community are there and were very friendly. I would stay there again.

We do sincerely regret the inconvenience you faced at the hotel, for which we are truly apologetic. The matter has been immediately addressed to the Department Head, HR department as well as the Training Consultant. Coincidentally one of the employees has already left the organization. We have also addressed your observations to the F&B Manager regarding the restaurant staff. We did our complete investigation and have found out that during your stay there was one trainee in the restaurant, hence, maybe you were not satisfied with his level of service. We do apologize for the same. We do have a selection of fruits always available. Mangoes are seasonal and during the duration of your stay, mangoes are generally not available. Convenient location - easy access to Peddar Road
Had good experience in Gulmarg restaurant. Staff was courteous and service excellent. One recommendation I would like to make is the bathroom glass facing the room should have a retractable curtain so that while taking shower, privacy is maintained. Right now person in the room can see a person taking shower.

The Shalimar Hotel will never get better
My initial reaction to my stay was to leave and forget but I feel obliged to add further warnings to previous complaints: not clean, staff unhelpful, facilities poor; I must reiterate all. To these I add the most alarming, the air-conditioning unit leaking on to the television and connected device and wall soaked with condensation. I informed the staff, warning of a fire hazard; they seemed unaware. That night I was told confidently it was fixed; it was worse. Complaints regarding the lack of cleanliness (stains on the floor, filthy surfaces, ants), if they addressed any it was not noticeable. I gave up; their approach is charming reassurance but no action. The staff had every opportunity to put things right but chose not to. I have stayed in other exceptional hotels in Mumbai; the management could learn from them. The breakfast staff were reasonably attentive and deserve some credit.

At the outset let me please apologise most profusely for your experience with us. We are truly very sorry for the same. We are apologetic about the air conditioner issue, and whilst we did resolve it on the first instant, we had some technical issues with the air-conditioning company who were unable to send their service engineer for their own issue. Whilst we can be absolved for this , it was truly difficult for us to address the issue. Also we were in a completely sold out position, hence, we were unable to accommodate you in another room. In fact the Duty Manager called up 3 other neighbouring hotels to find out their status , however, they were also sold out. We are truly sorry about this situation. We have a pest control contract with HVL, one of the cities most reputed pest control company. My apologies that you were not satisfied about the issue. In fact our Executive Housekeeper and Chief Engineer both met you during your stay and you were reasonably satisfied with everything, except the air conditioning problem, which I have already explained earlier .​ We do not agree with your observation about the stains on the floor, there is a marble surface in the corridor where you were staying, we have a routine polishing schedule. Our staff go through a rigorous training program regularly, I apologise that you did not find them up to the mark. I am truly sorry that your experience with us was not a pleasant one. I can only request you to please accord us more opportunity to make this up to you. I would request you to please in future when you do decide to book through Expedia , please mark a mail to the hotel also, I assure you a hassle free stay.
